Not sure about all th eother regions but many do in Alberta, when first being hired and some on a random basis.

Personally, I don't think it should ever matter or give a person something to worry about.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 705 guys did. Why do you ask? I haven't been told I'd had one yet, but I have no idea what my doc does with my urine sample either. I think you might be in the wrong line of work if you have to worry about drug tests.

I've often wondered about drug testing as a matter of human rights. Does someone have the right to take your pee? Your blood? Your semen? Your DNA?

I don't have an opinion on it either way really.

It is possible to wonder about drug testing and not be a junkie.

They have the right to ask you, you have the right to refuse, and they have the right to not give you a job...

I had a pee test on an initial hire for a job - they said they may do random tests too, but I never saw it come up with anyone... Maybe if you gave them cause to be suspicious over your behaviour they would?

Anyway - it probably is a human rights issue but I would guess they would trump that in our profession citing public safety concerns...

I don't know if the same applies to aviation, but in the trucking business -- which is also regulated at the federal level -- it is illegal to require a drug test as a condition of employment. They can, however, test you once you are an employee.

We have random alcohol tests every few months on our linecrew, but never drug tests. (They should have, seeing as one stoner worked there and we knew he was high on the job, but nothing we could do about it, he's gone now though  seems you can't hit an airbus and get away with it!)

I'm a frim believer that it should be a part of the yearly medical and that any company can drug test as part of the hiring process. I'd also be a fan of random drug tests.

Leave the drugs for the "artists" and those who aren't in command of expensive equipment carrying other human beings.

We claim to be proffesionals.. so we should strive to promote that.. Put the damn bong down if you want to fly commercially.

I agree! anyone involved in the the transport of A/C whether it be flying cargo or pax , whether its FLIGHT CREW , ATC or AME's , should be subjected to random drug testing... I understand curiosity of the question here , but I believe there should never ever be such question....... :? !!!

Hey Im no druggy by any means, but I am going to a party in a few weeks where there may be some weed and Im tempted. Im gonna be on days off so I wont have to fly a plane for about a week afterwards. Cant decide if its worth the risk. I certainly do not consider it a safety of professionalism issue.

My company does annual and they claim to do random testing too. But I have never given them any reason to suspect so Im not likely to get a test.

Would you really take the chance?

As it's been said before, pilots are professionnal. You have responsabilities bigger than most workers in Canada. What kind of image are you going to give your friends? All pilots smoke weed? It's really going to give a GREAT image....

Ya but I don't smoke weed. I hardly even drink. But this is going to be an exception due to the nature of the party and the fact that I have more than a week off.

My friends know I don't smoke often so I don't think it will create a negative image.

I wonder if it is ok to do once in a blue moon...I want to but Im not sure if I will take the risk I cant decide...probably not cause Ive worked way to hard to get to where I am just to throw it out for this.

BTW I don't think its ok for any pilot to smoke often because of the responsibilities. But this situation will have no impact on work at all.

I fully agree and also believe in yearly drug testing. Pilots should never use illigal drugs even if you are not flying for a month. :smt018

What I have an issue with is if others around you are doing drugs. Has nobody on this forum been to a concert? I have seem stadiums hot boxed how does this not effect me for a drug test? :weedman: :smt033

They should do follicle test it would show the level and frequency of use.

Haha things that are fun and feel good.

Look I am a healthy guy I work out hard and am in better shape than allot of pilots. My body is my temple. But I like to party and I may smoke weed one time through the course of this year. So tell me what is worse me or the obese pilot who is fueled by pop, chips and skittles out there flying around?

I don't indulge much in alcohol or marijuana. If one a crew were intoxicated on the job then they should be fired.

If a pilot chooses to drink alcohol or gets "fed" a special brownie on his days off then I have no real problem with that. In fact, if I was a passenger and one of the crew had been out partying the previous night......well, I would prefer they had choosen MJ over Alcohol because I've seen how delibitating a bad hangover can be.

I don't think that drugs or alcohol mix well with commercial aviation and you are risking your license and livelihood. Not to mention civil and criminal lawsuits!!.

As for drugtests there is one at Sunwest  :P :P My civil liberties were definately violated  but at least it isn't as bad as the US where FAA can demand urine on a random ramp inspection (I've heard)

Well that’s awfully nice of your guys bosses! Your saying they’ll test your drugs for you, make sure your dealer isn’t ripping you off! :D

Iv always wondered what the statistics are, how many accidents have been linked etc…

Just a side note the screening req (at least on pot) got a WHOLE lot more liberal, IE they basically 3 tripled the threshold for THC. Reason being that whole “Oh I was at a party, it was someone else.” So if you test positive don’t use that line.
Just as ANNOTHER side note remember Ross Rebagliati, guess who’s on the no fly list down south :D interesting huh?

Since when does being a ski bum who smokes a bit make you a terrorist.

Uh oh, can they no-fly-list me for saying that if they figure out who I am?

So glad I'm a Canuk!
