next generation trainer????
hey people i was just wondering, now that most of the c-152, c-172 trainners are less and less on the market, or are all starting to have many mny hours. and are not doing that thing for training. what i mean is you tell a student to be, that your 1976 cessna 172 has 12000 hrs and yeah its in GREAT shape!!!! what are they to think. don't you think that they will get worried. so here is my question? what is the next generation trainner! any comments or even pictures would be appriciated. later folks
I started my training on C-152's. When the school I was at sold off its C-152 fleet in favor of DA-20-C1's (Katanas), I rejected the idea at first and went for a few flights in C-172's. An instructor of mine was able to persuade me to make the move over to the Katana.
I have to say that it was the most fun I ever had. Being in a brand new aircraft with an aerobatic feel to it definately beats your standard 40 year old Cessna trainer. New avionics is also a really nice addition. A lot of schools operating old planes don't upgrade them to the new 'gps generation'.
Unfortunately I'm in a new city and I'm stuck with finishing my commercial up on C-172's. I'm not THAT picky.. flying is flying.. but those Katanas were great machines

well dimonds are becomming popular...though I'm not a fan
& I wouldn't count Cessna out just yet...they have already started reproducing the 172 & I'm sure when there is a big enouph market they will do the same to the 152s...unless they are waiting to replace them with something else...afterall they are currently testing a "next generation" small piston a/c. This proof-of-concept aircraft that will represent a family of small pistons that Cenna will be releasing
btw 152s are becomming hard to find these days so hopefuly they will soon start reproducing them soon....or start producing their replacement

Cessna's new vs of the 152?
The Cessna Sport, as it’s dubbed, will be powered by a 100-hp Rotax 912 engine. Gross weight (1,320 pounds) and airspeed (120 knots) are both the maximum allowed in the category.

This was my choice when I was plannig on a school about five years ago.

I was a guest of DeWitt Beckett at the plant in Florida and had the full factory demo flight training in it.
It was hands down the best primary trainer I have ever flown.
Also looks real sexy sitting on its conventional gear.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I wonder if TC would accept multi time on this bird , This would be an excellent multi time builder. I dream of owning one
Cheers

I agree.. but then I'm not tall (only 5'10"). To the same end a c150 is just as cramped for a tall person.Justwannafly wrote:Except in the sun...or if your tallbut those Katanas were great machines
I'm not sure what you mean by "in the sun" .. if you're talking about its limitation to fly when the structural temp is over 55 deg C, I would say that's a small price to pay. Especially so in Canada. I flew them through several summers in SW Ontario and not once were they too hot to fly. I suppose if it was 45 outside and you had painted it black and the sun was out in July, it might get over 55.
In that case, you wouldnt really want to be sitting in it anyway.. you'd boil like a lobster

Cessna will never die. Justwannafly, where can I find stats about those new 172's?

Only if it was not an advanced ultra-light airplane, Even though, if I had the extra cash and was a little lighter I would buy it and fly it for fun !!!!istp wrote:Do you need a multi rating to fly it?
I'd imagine so. And if so, that sounds like cheap multi-time to me!
