Low down on Wolverine Air

Post by AV8R »

Anyone know what Wolverine Air is like to work for? Working conditions, accomodations and any other general info?

I assume the Wx is mainly VFR as it is north.

the weather is definitely not mainly VFR...simpson is right on the river and gets weeks of shitty SPIFR days, and many IFR days.

The flying you would do up there is mostly VFR, though....from what I saw when I was there a few years ago, it seemed like a decent enough operation.

Fort Simpson is a good little town for a season or 2...ask PT6-114a...he used to work up there.

cheers

I think they are one of the better operators in the area. I've spoke with Chris before and he was pretty straight up.

Pretty sure they have a crew house, heard they had a hot tub and Simpson isn't the worst place to end up... Sounds like a fun place to work for a while...

I think the flying is all VFR but I don't think the weather in the north is all VFR so pick your days...

+1

I've never worked for them, but have met a couple of the guys who fly/flew for them. What Altiplano wrote is pretty much what they related to me.

I worked for Wolverine Air a number of years ago and I'm better for it. Chris runs a great outfit there and will never put in over your head.

Ft. Simpson is not a bad town to be in either...they actually have tourists who visit...you'd also be hard pressed to find better scenery than the Nahanni Park. If you get the chance, give it a try and bring your camera.

I worked for Chris in the mid 90's. Great operation and would recommend his company to work for too anybody. The aircraft were always in very good shape, crew housing is clean and quiet. You can't go wrong, flying is great and you will learn alot. The other posters were bang on about the weather. There is a shortage of chic's however!!

What kind of qualifications are needed for Wolverine? Looks like you'd only need Comm / Float judging from the website.

I'm not too sure what he's looking for now, it's always predicated on the insurance/fire patrol requirements. Only way to know for sure is to give him a shout or better yet, drop by.

ps. it's already April, I'm sure he's lining up his staff for the summer already.

The rules of sharing etiquette are fairly easy to remember.

Who goes first and then in which turn is directly related to how much escape juice you already have in you measured by how much is left in the bottle.

Sometimes just watching is fun.

HA! That's awesome. :laughbig: Like Throat Yogurt I'm assuming.

No wonder you prefer a thorough Medical Exam.

Tui:

If nothing else I have to credit water bombing with honing my alcholism to a high level of achievement. The mindboggling amount of time one sits at a tanker base waiting for a fire does something to the human spirit.

With copious amounts of escape juice in your system the ability to screen your love partner at 1 AM in the local zoo results in high risk romance.

But it is all part of the journey.

The question: To take a job you don't really want ( I should just be more grateful i suppose...but that's not the answer I'm lookin' for)...or wait it out for the job you really want...

current status...unemployed...low hours
