Hello "Confused".
I don't know what Rowdy's TT was, or how much mountain experience he had.
I do however know that his chief pilot has a very challenging and extensive check-out that far exceeds the CARs requirements.
I was fortunate enough to land a job with the same company and was given plenty of dual time before I was cut loose & on top of that, was sent out on the same type of familiarization flight that Rowdy had his misfortune on...
I'm sure Rowdy will attest, as I will now, that his Chief Pilot is a real pro & whatever happened that day was not a result of incomplete training, or being rushed. As "Kilo Kilo" said... "Shit happens to the best of us"...
I have yet to see another operator with standards as high as "Bella Coola Air".
Get Well Rowdy

I'm not sure I understand the details of this mishap, however I'm sure we have all this before...everytime pilots prepare to operate an airplane, we are preparing for an emergency, the worst case scenario.
This 'season' is young, everyone fly safe and be prudent.
Rowdy, recently you've sent me and my family positive energy....I reciprocate it back to you tenfold.
Take it slow...but take it.

Hang in there Rowdy. When the injuries are behind you, get back in an airplane and show it who's boss.
If your anything like me. It will forever alter the way you fly, in a positive way.
As for training etc. sometimes while your flying happily along in those god damn hills the good lord has different plans. All the training in the world won't change that. That's why I went back to flat ground.

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery Rowdy! I usually check in to Avcanada a few times a week and have always been impressed by your continuous positive vibes!!! Just got back from a week away from base and was sure surprised to hear the news. Best of luck with everything.
Speedy recovery. Lots of season(s) left. Relax. Playoffs start soon, so it's not like you're wasting time

I don't often post on this forum, and even then only at the risk of saying something that will get me electronically mauled.
But I just came from paying Rowdy a visit at the hospital and, I must say, given the ordeal he's been through he's looking quite well and his spirits are high. And the best part is - he's already talking about drinking beer and flying airplanes again (not at the same time, of course) as soon as his body - and Transport - will let him. Which I'm sure will be soon.
In the meantime, he's a strong guy and a great pilot, and will come out of this an even stronger guy and an even better pilot - with one hell of a story to tell!
It's nice to see a hate-free thread for a change. Keep up the good work!

Don't like it? Don't read it.
Pilot flying, a really useful skill to help Rowdy in his recovery would be to teach himself how to drink Guinness through a straw. Guaranteed to get him better fast and will wash away the taste of Jello.
Get better soon, Rowdy!
Get better soon, Rowdy!

Hi everyone, its Rowdy's dad again. Both surgeries sucessfull. Ill spare most of the daily occurences but will let you know he is spending time in a recovery chair and not prone. Maybe off intravenus today and is able to drink through a syringe. Actually a good way to ingest liquids, much better than a straw. Im sure there will be some trying this tonight.
Its Easter weekend and his mom and I believe they will keep him in until Tuesday.
Again, thank you all for the positive comments and well wishes. It really brought him up when we read them to him. He spent 20 minutes laughing through clenched teath at some of the comments.
Pleaser take care and stay safe.

Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from the little things; knows not the livid loneliness of fear, nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.

Ladies and gentleman, You've all been so kind and it's put tears in my eyes reading some of the posts here. Thank you so much for all the support. It's what keeps me going strong.
I was released from VGH last night and sent home. Boy what a ride.. You sure do feel every crack in the road when you're back aint right. Hard to talk and drink/eat with my jaw wired shut, but thats only for another week.
I wish I could presonally thank all those involved with the rescue and recovery. The SAR guys did a fantastic job of locating me and were on scene quite quickly ( was good to hear the whine of the turbines on the buff as she overflew me) Also the heli crews that ultimately did the most by retrieving me from my downed craft. Those find folk have years of experience, are fantastic people and took on a great challenege to get to me.
The BC ambulance service and the ALS crews are AMAZING, I was truly taken care of by the best in my opinion and those fine folk are worth there weight in gold. As well as the NT air medevac crew that got me safely and quickly back to YVR.
The wonderful staff in the spine and trauma wards at VGH also need a little praise as do the nurses whou catered to every little beck and call. I think I made a good impression on a couple of the cute ones.
My final two thanks go to wayne and laurie.. my wonderful emplyers at BCA.. Thank you two for everything you've done for me.
Lastly to david clark for saving my head from more injury. headband had the AI and DG knobs stuck into it.
I've probably played the whole thing over a billion times in my head now.. I remember pretty much everything up until the impact.
I want all the other drivers out there to promise me one thing. ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS wear your shoulder straps.. and keep em kinda tight.. never know when it'll save you from a broken jaw or head injuries.
Back starting to hurt now from sitting so long at the comp. Best be off.
Take care everyone.. I'll keep everyone up to speed o my recovery
Cheers,
Michael Wimmer aka "Rowdy"

You're one tough guy and even though I only know you through your posts, I'm sure glad to hear that you made it through & are back home.
Wishing you nothing but the best.
