Cheaper to install, much lighter, way easier to service, very pilot-friendly. Going steam is like putting a CRT in your laptop. You guys use computers daily yet you don't trust glass?

If you haven't tried glass, you have not yet flown. If you want a great comparison, look at a Challenger 600 panel first and compare it to a 604 or 605. 1st one looks like it was designed by a Brit and the second just looks like it was done properly. Or an old Hawker and a new one. Falcon 20 and a 200.

Get rid of all those ball-bearings and vacuum pumps and about 40 miles of wires.

Anyone heard if they are going to go ahead with the Beaver as well? I know of a partnership that broke up over the question of glass cockpits in the Beaver.

I have always thought that a revived Beaver and Twin Otter line would have a good market. Hopefully we will see the Beaver back in production as well.

Who cares whats inside them...atleast they're coming back! Thats amazing news. I always thought, regardless of how popular they are, and in demand because of their durability, they would eventually be phased out by something...Im glad theyll be around for that much longer!

Beaver doesn't need a panel - a real pilot never looks at it anyway.

It's interesting to note that the old 985 isn't standing for any "glass" gauges. The engine gauges are all still "round". What else do you look at in a Beaver? The airspeed is always 100 and the altitude is measured above the trees! :P

I haven't had alot of exposure to glass and my question is, what will glass do to turn arround times. I have had as little as 3 minutes on the ground from landing to t/o and yes I shut down both. In watching glass a/c start and taxi it seems alot of time is needed to initialize glass. But now I realize the only one making extra for the quick turns was the owner so what should I care right.

Flaps not to worry. Not sure what glass you have seen but the ones I have experience with takes virtually no time at all to initialize. Certainly not where it would have an impact on turn around times.
