Reciprical jumpseat agreement AC-WJ-Jazz

Post by double-j »

Just throwing this out there to you 'red' types. Have you used this agreement yet? How have you found it? Easy? I know its kinda frustrating that you have to pay security fees on WJ but we dont on AC but...

I have had two pilots request the "jumpseat" since this this began, and not one even came up to say thanks (It still has to be approved by the Capt.) I don't commute, so havn't used it yet, but if it were me I would personally wait till all the paying pax deplaned before saying a quick thanks for the lift!

Is it just me?

As far as I'm concered the AC pilots can use our deal and not say thanks... SINCE they still have to pay. I'll also buy them a sandwich say thanks when they're on board, if I see them. If I use the AC Jumpseat, I'll throw a couple of Timmy's coupons up and say...'Thanks for the lopsided deal, we appreciate it and we're working on improving it'.

WestJet pilots should remain very greatful that Brian Boucheir brought the deal back when we can't YET fully reciprocate. The entire basis of jumpseating is to avoid taxes... now please don't get me going on my opinion of WestJet's other employee groups for not allowing us to YET fully offer a proper jumpseat deal to other airlines. Baby steps in progress.

I agree that it is a giant leap foreward and we get the better end of the deal, however its just a sign of courtesy and costs nothing..

You should be thanking Steve Weiher. This deal would have gone nowhere if it weren't for his relentless perseverance; this guy just doesn't know how to give up.

I haven't personally used it yet but I was chatting with a Jazz pilot yesterday that uses WJ to get to work in Calgary on a semi-regular basis. He had nothing but good things to say about it. Easy to set up, everyone was very easy to deal with. I think its a great idea (although I would love to see the charge disappear but as was mentioned, baby steps) :D

The charge is there because we have to pay it on our own airline, just like everybody else that works at WestJet. Everybody pays. We are not entitled to our entitlements. Can you imagine Rebel or tonysoprano flying for free on WestJet when both pilots, the 3-5 F/As and the CSAs all would have paid for the same seat on their own airline? Pay the $2.50+tax and I'll buy you a (Tim's) coffee and some headphones. I, as a WestJet pilot, owe you for the free reciprocal jumpseat, not my employer and not the other employees that don't get it.

Southwest, JBlue, Mesaba, Alsaka, United, American, Northwest, and Air Canada employees all have to pay the fee and tax on their own airline. That's what you don't get, it's a TAX SAVINGS that uitilizes all seats in the sky very well. If it's an employee of another airline using the seat they do not have to pay the tax AND it's CCRA and the IRS that makes the rules, not me.
SO yes, I can imagine WestJet employees paying and an Air Canada pilot not paying, on WestJet... because that's the whole POINT of a Jumpseat agreement. It's the same as every other airline on the planet (except WestJet of course.) For the record, FA's, Disptachers, have jumpseat agreements around the globe too. Just because a CSA can not jumpseat is not a valid reason to me to insist on a charge ...just to keep the peace, that's just childish.

back up here a second, Dispatchers get Jumpseat agreements with WJ and AC...say again, and repeat yourself a little slower
Are you saying I pay a reduced fair on WestJet if I can prove I am Dispatcher for a particular airline?
Cheers

I agree with the original post. If someone is kind enough to grant you the Jumpseat, the least one can do, is say thanks.

WestJet and Unitied dispatchers have their own jumpseat deal. Not sure who you work for.

I used the JS once on WJ. Everyone was delayed out of YQT until the RVR went up, so I went home. Jocelyn (the gate agent at WJ) called me at home to tell me that since the wx improved, the flight would be departing shortly. Then they held the flight for me. Now that's service!
