VNC Adhesive

Post by bater »

I'm making a wall chart using old VNC's and am wondering if anyone knows what the best type of adhesive is to use? Also, how to take out the wrinkles from the folds?
cheers

Wallpaper? Though it might not stand up to that.

Might also try Spray 77 from 3M.

What are you using for a backing? I would recommend an MDF product for its smoothness or if you want it be uber nice I would go with a paper backed product though it is pricier than G1S ply. The MDF is cheap and should look ok.

As for wrinkles, no idea as I would think soaking the whole map would make it fall apart as it is not deigned for that sort of water immersion, and that is how I would do it with large decals or wall paper and then a squeegee.

You could iron them lightly. I'd recommend the 3M adhesive as well- that stuff sticks like nobody's business. Also, when you've got them all glued down you can seal the chart with a paint-on clear coat glue type stuff, though I don't know the product name you could probably find it at Michael's or a scrapbook store.

you might also be able to find the clear-coat sealing glue at stores that sell jigsaw puzzles.

What about a glass panel screwed down tightly? Or is the wall too big?

I did this once, we put a couple charts on the wall. we used wallpaper paste, and if the charts are not used I got the wrinkles out using a plastic drywall taping trowel while the paste was still wet. I put them right on the painted drywall. just let the paint dry for a few days if it is fresh so it won't peel off to easy. To remove- wallpaper remover sprayed on it and a little elbow grease and it was gone.

One cool thing to do would be to put it under glass and then you could use white board markers to do flight planing with it. Also saw where a guy too a protractor and drew a 300nm circle around for commercial x-country flight planning... gotta go this far away.
