give it a try and go work for them.....you'll see then what we're talking about.123dash wrote:Seen a lot of bashing voyageur. Can anybody tell me what's up with them. Why do they suck?
I see that they are hiring apprentices for overseas, now is that just a gimic or is that for real? And if it is for real where do the operate overseas and does anyone know the aircraft they operate overseas as well? or what there overseas wage is? Thanks in advanced for any help you can offer me.
Seems to me that if a company is taking apprentices overseas to a location like Africa then that is likely a sign that they can not get more qualified people. Technicial abilities aside, the sh!t can hit the fan in places like that and a 20 year old fresh out of college will not have the life experiences to deal with it.
To start i work for Voyageur, so i'll try and lay some of these "i heard from a guy" things to rest. The only good things i can say about Voyageur is job security, and they have an ok benefits package. The pay is below par and the work demanded of you is great. I can't say much for the heavy maintenance side since i havent worked on that side for years. When i was there it was like working at a concentration camp. Moral was always low, the pay scale was lower at that time, and so on.
I can speek for line maintenance though and i'm happy with the department, setting aside the big growing pains that are going on. Voyageur has grabbed far too many overseas contracts then the line maintenance depeartment can effectivly handle. We need guys badly. As far as traveling overseas it's got it's good and bad points. If your single and are looking for experience it's the way to go. The aircraft being operated are Dash 8 300's, an RJ 200, and two Dash 7's. You'll learn alot more about an aircraft on "Tour" then at any other point. Overseas pay is below par, the daily allowance is fare, but living conditions are different depending where you are based. In some cases there is a company house, and other cases your on a UN military compound. The tour lengths are also too long (two months there three weeks home). If you are married and/or have kids it very hard. They are currently "working" on it though they tell me.
At this time the Engineers like myself are streched pretty thin and many of us are getting to a point where we are looking for work elsewere. If more mechanics joined up then i'm sure things would not necesarily get better but at least lighten up.
Hope this long winded write up helps.

Most people I know in the maintenance business read these forums from time to time. I just wonder how many people acutally apply at Voyageur these day given the smear they get here. Just a warning to all you shady employers out there that in todays labour market you can't get away with the crap you used to.
can we give this up already? how many more posts do we need to decide that voyageur sucks? 5? maybe 10, not sure. one thing i am sure of is that i am sick of reading about this crappy company. GIVE UP! and to all the people posting on this forum, the fact that most of you have joined since voyageur started operations in Africa tells me you are all employees at voyageur. further more, the fact that information about pilots getting robbed in entebbe, and the "new" contracts in east timor, and Liberia proves with out a doubt that all you whining bitches work at the same company you are bashing. so get a life, get a hair cut, and get a real job, or shut the f@ck up! just my two cents.
