Platinum Jet Air & Corpac

Post by tincanflyer »

CRJ plans ---as a follow up to the item appearing in our May news update Corporate Express is now associated/owned by Platinum Jet Air. The 39-seat CRJ will be their high-density version. They are planning to acquire/operate three CRJs offering 3 flights daily in both directions between Calgary and Toronto. These CRJs would be configured with 18 seats and would be considered CRJ-850s. Corporate Express currently has one Saab 340A and one JetStream 31. Possible start up for this new Calgary-Toronto service would be in the fall of 2007 and there are plans to also use the CRJs to/from Fort McMurray Alberta and Calgary.

If platinum ever gets off the ground - I'll bet they won't last 6 months.

6 flights a day X 18 seats = 108 bums moved in a day. This will cost a fortune in fuel alone. Now add landing fees at the most expensive airport in the world and so on and so on.

Platinum is obviously targeting a niche market so perhaps they aren't concerned about competing for passengers in the domestic market where AC and WJ get the job done much cheaper. Neverless, business models like platinum's are more fragile to econimcal hiccups. As costs rise you can spread it over 100+ seats in an Airbus or a 37. In Platinum's model you'll spread it over 18 seats if you're lucky. Tiny fluctuations in operating costs are exponentially worse in Platinum's model. Even the rich and famous will eventually say screw it and just charter a Lear from Skyservice or Sunwest.

At least though with only 18 seats they won't have to leave any bags behind and the cabin won't feel too tight.

It will also be a good stepping stone for some guys - good time and a good rating.

That's not a lot of seats for an RJ!

The piaggios may be on the way back to corpxair as well. (What did the examiner say when a pizzas engine was cooked on that PPC ride??)

I bet the RJ's don't get off the ground until November at the earliest. The hangar may be rented to them as well. Good luck. Hope it works guys.

Sounds a lot like the buisness plan of Quikair after they got forced to operate out of YEG and cover the same routes as the airlines. Let's hope this market is more lucrative...

The CRJ (CL850)has been variously configured with (to my knowledge)15,16,18,25,39,40,44,46 and 50 seats. Oh yeah, and two freighters with none....
