Hey Doc

I have a BMW R1200R with a sporty screen. Works great but I have always been a fan of "naked" bikes. BTW, the insurance on my Beemer is about half what it was on my Victory Hammer. ( $750/year, full coverage with Riders Plus )

My neighbor just bought his first street bike. I ponted him in the direction of an inline 4 of lower displacement. Can't go wrong, the power will always be there! I do love the torgue of a big twin however!

I had a small windshield on my K100 and it was ok if you hunkered down behind it. I had a bigger windshield on my 1200 Sporty and it saved my fizz from a bunch of wasps and a large rock. A small windshield would be like wearing one of Cat's condoms (now I'm gonna get it)!

I have a slip streamer fairing coming this week. It's not a full size, but a good chunk larger than a std windshield. Report to follow.

Do you guys find a windsheild helps make you more aerodynamic at all? Maybe by deflecting the air over you?

I find it nearly impossible to ride over 60 mph without a windshield.

It doesn't need to be a great big thing, but it does need to be mounted on the frame and not the triple/bars as some older bikes did.

The more aggressive the riding position (eg 600/1000 RR sportbike) the less windshield you need, because the riding position (high pegs/low clipons) naturally leans you forward into the wind. In fact on these bikes riding slowly is quite unpleasant because of the weight on your hands, and only becomes comfortable when you have wind lifting your chest.

P.S. As a complete non sequitur, I might mention that Hedley is playing the cisco Bluesfest in Ottawa on July 9.

Me, too! Ordered it last weekend.

Never used one before but the weather's so crappy this summer I thought it might extend the season.

Doc go try the Duc!!! Just about the most fun you can have with your clothes still on. :D My girl and I were sitting in a cafe patio the other evening, when an elderly gent came up to us and said, "nice bikes" (01 Monster and 71 Commando) The old fella rides a Duc 1098 and an R1. He's in his mid 60s!!!
As for windshields I put the flyscreen on the Monster. It made highway riding easier, but I found myself subconsciously riding faster on the Monster over time. As the wrists tire the air load on the chest compensates.

I hope you guys enjoy a nice summer of riding. Unfortunately on thursday I was taking a corner too fast and hit the brakes to avoid a car. Dropped the bike and flew off. Compound fracture in the left arm and had some bone come through the skin. Had surgery at 10pm thursday to 1:00am fri morning and recived 2 plates & 11 screws for my trouble. I was discharged Friday @ noon and have just been taking it easy with my percs.

Surgon says ill prob. bde out of commission for 8 - 12 weeks. No flying or riding in the mean time.

This blows.

That totally sucks! Glad you'll recover though. Pesky corners! Always take right corners about 20% slower than left ones. You take a right one wide...you're in "their" lane. What were you riding?
Bloody cars.

I would say no, but don't go flying till you feel you're in good shape with full strength and mobility.

Like they say, there are 2 types of motorcycle riders. Those that have wiped out, and those who are going to wipe out. I was lucky never to wipe out in 13 years, so I quit while I was ahead.

I think my secret was that I'm so scared of pain that I drove like a grandma. (but with more awareness) Ah, bullshit. I was just lucky.

Get well soon, man!

-istp

That looks more like the type of injury you get when a fat girl rolls on your arm . We know how mopeds attract fat girls . You should be grateful she did not break your nose.So fess up niss tell us what really happened !!!!!

I got off really lucky, the only damage was a cracked headlight. I am thinking of Bondo-ing & repainting.

and a scratched throttle.

I got off pretty easy methinks!
