I see a lot of ads for these guys on CBC Newsworld..anyone know who they are? A new startup? Division of another company? Lease to a charter company?

More curious than anything else..

Booked YVR-HKG-YVR for a total price of $480 round-trip... thanks to the free flight one-way, $299 the other fare.

Oasis is a new low-cost (plus) company. Interestingly, many of their "drivers" are coming from Cathay Pacific!

Director Flight Ops, Chief Pilot (Manager Flight Ops), Chief Training Captain and Manager Pilots.....are all from Cathay Pacific. All Skippers in company except 1 are from either Cathay Pacific or British Airways. Roughly 75 % of the First Officers are previously type rated with at least 1000 hours on type. So far only 6 Second Officers. Not quite Jetsgo.

First flight to YVR is currently over the Pacific, and is do in at roughly 1545 Local.

I used to fly 2 of their now (3 or 4) -400's when they were contracted to Iberia.

They were a bit tired (originally Singapore A/C from around 1989/90) but their new ones joining the fleet are sure to be in great shape being ex. ANA aircraft and relatively new.

They have, I'm sure scrubed them up nice and I'm sure will be fine for the price your paying. I have a bunch of friends working there and I very much doubt it's a chinese Jetsgo model.

Full service as well just not the level one expects from CX.

I don't care where their flight crews come from - or if they all have 8 million hours on type. You can't run a 747-400 for $480 round trip YVR - HKG (unless maybe you have 600 seats in the thing). Sounds just like Jetsgo's $1 fare deal. Where's all this money not going?? I'll give you one guess.

Well boeingboy, everybody is entitled to their opinion. And I WOULD respect yours if you had flown with us ALREADY. If anybody cares to read actual accounts of our passengers, please refer to http://www.airlinequality.com and go to the passenger opinion section and look for Oasis Hong Kong, and read the experiences of our passengers.

Most of our cabin crew come from either Cathay Pacific and Dragonair. As we pay our cabin crew better than both Cathay and Dragonair. Just like jetsgo I'm sure paid better than Air Canada or similar :-/

I lucked out because they were giving away 1000 free one-way (YVR-HKG) tickets if you booked a return ticket -- which happened to be the lowest sale fare of $299. Non-refundable, non-changable, etc, etc. Very restrictive tickets. These 1000 free tickets, btw, had a limit of three per flight. Not exactly giving away a whole planeload of people when the capacity is what, 400 people?

Much like the LCC's have dramtically lowered fares domestically, the time is coming for the same to happen internationally....

It already has been around quite a while now.

Even look at the seat sales on Legacy carriers overseas, right where the LLC"s advertise... Nothing new, just a new name.

You're right.. but there are a lot more airlines ramping up low-cost international ops today than there were a year or two ago.

HOLY S%$T Dude. You need to relax a bit.

No where did I say service sucked or crews weren't paid. If the fact that they were charging pocket change for an international long haul flight was true - then there was going to be a severe shortfall somewhere (wether it was miant, equip, crews). All i have ever heard was cheap, cheap tickets from these guys. You need to chill a little.

CanadaEH - Thanks for the info.

Uh, not really. I am in no way angry or even upset for that matter. This is a thread about an airline I work for......A JOB. I really could care less about this subject. But along with ideas and rumours, facts should also be sometimes shared. If it was about friends or family, then that is a different story.

But none the less, point taken......um....I guess.

Just curious about the cabin.. What kind of entertainment system do they have? What's the seating config? What kind of food would they serve on a YVR-HKG leg?? Curiosity is all...

IFE consists of personal tv screens at every seat, however, it is NOT an on demand system but is free of charge including headsets. The audio selection is not bad. Cabin configuration is buissness and economy. Buissness is in the forward part of the cabin and upper deck. Food is OK, not great. In economy you will have 2 free of charge meals in flight. For each meal you will have 2 choices. For snacks in between meals there is a charge.

cheers

Recently flew Oasis from Honkers to Gatwick return.

Was good flight. you get two meals, snacks and other stuff like pop u pay for, but not a lot, around $1 CDN i think.

Staff friendly, on time, no complaints at all.

I flew Oasis on the Vancouver - Hong Kong route earlier this month.
Besides the fact that the orange clothed stewardists were an eyesore, the entertainment system failing, and them running out of choices for food, it was good. (Instead of having the 29 channels I was told that they have, they had 3 the first time, and on the flight back the Ent. system failed so it took them a bit to get it up and running and then we had 10 channels.)
The pilots however do seem pretty nice. My mom ran up to a group of them in Hong Kong while they were waiting to board and made me talk to them. They gave me the obvious advice for a young pilot, apply for Cathay's Cadet Programme.

Does anyone have any info. on Oasis? Visited the web site and it lists 1000 hours of jet time as min. requirement for F/Os but is that a hard set requirement? Also, if someone could shed some light on work schedule, pay, and the usual info. would be much appreciated.

Cheers.
