Pilot's Wife's life
My wife asked me this the other day so ill ask you guys here.
She wanted to know how is the life of a pilot's wife.
Im only thinking about the "big iron" guys who are making good $$$
Does your wife still work?
Im guessing she doesnt and if so does she just travel the world?
I need to show my wife some light at the end of the tunnel.
Especially when we start paying back the loan!
Thanks,

Check out these two sites:
http://wifeofapilot.blogspot.com/
and
http://www.jetgirls.net
I showed both to my fiance.....she really enjoys reading them. Gives a great perspective to any 'significant other of a pilot'. Great support groups as well.
Cheers.

Since you're not showing your wife things you may also not want to show her this. Lifted from PPRUNE...
Where are the best spots for a fledging Canadian expat to head for? I looked at CX but wasn't interested in what they were offering; the sandpit seems to be experiencing steadily deteriorating conditions for pilots....I am doing okay in Canada but growing extremely weary of the high tax conditions and resultant low wages. Yes we live in a fantastic country but we are starting to consider doing some overseas time to get the finances in order, as they have taken a beating from over 9 years in this Canadian industry. Currently over 5500 hours TT with 3800+ PIC, 1200 Jet, all B737NG but as F/O of course....
I have heard that you shouldn't head overseas unless you are a Captain, but interested in hearing some stories of guys that have done it.
You can interpret that however you would like.
I just about gaged when I read your comment about piltos wives travelling the world.....ya right! Those that do...good on you, for the most of us that "really" love our husbands, the last thing you ask of them is to get on an aircraft and stay in a hotel. Home, meals made from scratch, their own clean sheets and pillow. Home is vacation for pilots.

Actually, my wife works. It's her choice and I think she'd absolutely die of boredom if she didn't. I suppose there are days where she would sooner live the life of luxury at home, but she's way too proud to be a "kept woman".
I must say that she smiled at the wives travelling around the world. Although she has done her fair share of travelling, it's usually with me and we are headed somewhere on vacation.
The image of the "jet-setting" rich pilot's wife is by far the minority.

Call me a pessimist, but I think you should be discussing "the worst case scenarios" as well as the best.
The facts are, the industry is cyclic and depending on the economy and world wide events such as 911, your career may flourish or flounder. This may be completely out of your control.
Many of todays youth have not experienced hard times in aviation and will be in for a real eye opener if/when things tank.
Is she ready for that? Maybe a forced move overseas, loss of a house, financial devestation, prolonged separation from you? All things to consider. There are no guarantees in this business or any business for that matter.
When things are good and the aviation gods are smiling on you, it is the best job in the world!
