Life Insurance....what is everyone doing?

Post by +VE R8 »

Looking into Life insurance for myself, and having a hard time finding out that most insurance companies will not cover Disability insurance when I'm at work ("while in the airraft").
Just wondering what kind of coverage is out there that some of you utilize who don't get the coverage through work...or do you simply not allow the green cojos to fly and let them only work the radios (maybe that would cheapen the monthly rates...ha...no offence to the new be cojo's...it's a joke, you may laugh now).

Thanks,
Fly Safe!

professional pilots insurance plan, ppip.ca, is through an alberta broker with co-operators as the provider. Geared towards pilots to cover anything that would make you lose your medical or worse, but still no coverage while in the airplane while it's under it's own power. Prices are reasonable, I think, as I pay about 35 a month to cover me and my wife with full everything. Look em up, give em a call, so far I've no complaints, or problems, mind you I haven't had to collect for anything...

I was able to get coverage through american express that covers me under what they consider "high risk" for pretty cheap I think anyways... its around $24 a month for 200k... this was 5 or 6 years ago though but if i remember right it was 30 when i signed up...

Just my take on it;

When the airplane is moving, you are at work. Thus you are protected by the provincial worker's compensation program. Here in Quebec (not familiar with other provinces) each employer has to pay $$ to the program based onthe level of risks. Pilots are listed amongst the high risk activity and thus my employer must pay higher rates.

If I have an accident while working, I am covered.

Now this being said, supplemental insurance is a good idea specificaly if one has young bambinos...

Make sure you are not doing off strip flying. Tell your broker what kind of flying your doing make sure he knows what you are talking about.

I'm investing all of my life insurance money in beer.

Ideally, I'd like to die owing millions, then I'd be ahead of the game.

Life insurance

I have a policy with PPIP as well. Its good for life insurance. You can also look at Loyd's of London. They have a loss of license plan thats the best I've seen. Its not cheap, but it sure helps if your life reverts to working at home Depot. I have the brokers number somewhere...pm me if you want it.

SSIP after retirement from the CF is the best. But of course there's that whole service engagement and obligatory service thing.......
