I Hate the Snowbirds

Post by ScudRunner »

Seriously I dont hate the Snowbirds, but this video is funny.
(Caution foul Language)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 2831974203
This most embarrassing video comes from the Heads-up display recorder of a CT155 Hawk training jet at the Canadian Forces Flying School in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The instructor had been trying for some time to do some touch-and-go landings for his student's lesson, but was continuously delayed because the Snowbirds Aerobatics team were preparing for a 9 plane takeoff.

The HUD video was retrieved and played at the instructor's retirement party at the Officers' mess. The next day, someone stole it and put it on the web.... Needless to say, somebody is now in hot water....

Well I wouldn't cross the street to meet or watch the snowbirds. I have had the displeassure of being at the other end of their demands. My taxes pay their salaries so they should be kissing MY ass. The are demanding, rude, arrogant, and think it's ok to come into town and screw around and are directly responsible for 5 failed marriages that I am aware of. Oh I know it takes 2 to tango but these guys are suppose to be ambassadors of our finest. Ha what a joke. Get rid of them.

No I have never applied to the armed forces. I was busy trying to raise a family. I just have little patience for jerks that use my tax money and then give me arrogance, and your my slave attitude. The officer (note small o)in the video demonstrated everything I'm talking about, an arrogant, me first, attitude. Although he was not a sb I imagine he tried because he would fit right in. In defense of the 9 on ground it was winter so they are in training, probably takes a little longer to get going than it would in fall. The officer in question was of course way better than that.

....I understand they're chosen for their flying skill only, and NOTHING else? Am I correct?

Actually, all the Snowbirds I have ever met over many years (their lineup is continually changing) were great guys, and I think do a very, very good job of representing Canada at airshows in the USA, where they are always in high demand.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Muskeg, if your wife left you to try a snowbird, is that really the snowbirds fault, or your wifes?

Hate to say it the Snowbirds just are not that good. I would love to see a non-airfarce pilot get some formation training. I would put my time and exp up to any (modern day) Air Force pilot. Yes I know that some of you will think thats crazy but its just the truth. How good can you be with 300hours a year? As for them banging other peoples wives.... well I don't know too many pilots that have not done the same thing... or at least thought about it. Find me a pilot whos not a pig in some way?

I'm sure you would be just as good as them if you had the training they had too. But you haven't. And that's why you're not really qualified to make a judgement on whether they are any good at what they do or not.

For the record they are very good at what they do.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

first of all id like to say this movie made me laugh! hilarious! i wonder what the guy right seat (or left seat depending on which # he is) was thinking while the pilot was screaming that...

secondly id like to say that ive never ran into 'were better then u' attitudes from any of the snowbirds pilots or their AME's...theyve always answered my question nicely and taught me some neat cool things i didnt know...

maybe uve just had a bad encounter with one guy and stereotype the rest of the fleet but hey! thats ur problem!

Video was taken from the HUD cam of a CT-155 Hawk - so the voice would have been the instructor (back seat) complaining to the student (front seat).

Anyone that pulls 300hrs/yr and does what the Snowbirds does in a year is impressive in my books. I run into them every year, and have never met a jerk among them, pilot or ground crew.

Snowbirds are a great bunch of guys, and are internationally regarded as one of the most talented and complex air demonstration teams in the world.

Anyone who says otherwise obviously has little to no knowledge on the subject.

Having worked with some ex-snowirds guys I'll second that remark.

300hrs/yr and does what the Snowbirds does in a year is impressive ...
Just a little perspective on the 300 hours per year thing. First of all, cross-country time is almost completely useless with respect to developing and maintaining stick & rudder pilot skills. It should not pose a major challenge to fly straight and level.

Let's take a theoretical pilot who flies 300 hrs/yr, but no x/c. His flight time is divided up into 600 chunks of 0.5 - each flight consists of a rather busy 0.3 directly overhead the airport, flying a formation aerobatic sequence, both positive and negative G.

600 aerobatic sequence flights per year is roughly two flights a day for 300 days of the year - that's six days a week, 50 weeks of the year.

That's a pretty intense flying schedule. You're gonna be a whole lot better pilot if you did that for 3 years, and survived.

I guess what I'm trying to explain that 10,000 hours in an airbus is NOT equivalent to 10,000 hours of aerobatics. Your opinion, of course, may differ.

I prefer the Thunderbirds...Blue Angels...I'm impressed on the planes they fly and their performance.....
Snowbirds can't manage to keep their simple tutors in the air...

Gte better palnes or get rid of them I say!

this is probably nothing more than inter-departmental rivalry coming out. The Forces is notorious with rivalries between navy army, and air force, so it wouldn't surprise me there's even a subculture within the air force too.

Fact(not opinion):

#1. The snowbirds are a world class group of pilots who do a fantastic job representing Canada in the air and on the ground.

#2. This thread only proves how many dumb shits post on this website.
