Jobs Abroad

Like the title says, I'm looking for possible job openings abroad - doesn't matter where, just somewhere different. Flying Navajos, Islanders, King Airs, 1900s, whatever - don't have any float time, so that's pretty well out of the picture. I'm up for anything that sounds like an adventure, or at least a good experience. I got into this biz to see the world, and I'd like to start seeing it.

So what I'm looking for is people on here with first hand info, PMs are totally welcome, and I appreciate any kind of constructive information.

I'm aware of how the search function works, and believe me, I've used it. I've also spent a couple of hours surfing the web and sending emails. So I'd like to think I've done some research.

Actually, you may want to just toss up a general idea of your experience. Do you have time on the types listed? I think I have a general idea, just reading your posts. Do you ever consider jumping in with a company like Sander Geophysics or Fugro? That's a pretty straight forward way to see a lot of the world, and they are both good reputable organizations. Although that type of flying isn't for everyone.

A friend of mine was in Angola flying for the Red Cross.
He was regularly shot at and had a mechanic killed in a regular drive by shooting.

I would not walk the downtown streets of Calgary at night.......nor would I ever walk the streets of Luanda at night. Of course there are incidents but it has been peaceful since the war ended. I have been there 6 months as an engineer....its great. Like the guy said....... he wanted an adventure....not to be put asleep working in Grand Praire.

Oh please, there is a huge difference between safety in Canada and safety in Africa. Fearing for your life just for trying to get home after sunset is a little different in Luanda than Calgary.

Don't confuse adventure with unnecessary exposure to risk.

Checked out a few of the survey companies, seem pretty decent. Thought about Borek, but I think I'm better off waiting to get my As before I apply there, and as for Voyaguer... not even sure what to think about them.

Have you noticed there does seem to be a shortage of male testicles in todays society. Looks to me like they are all jumping out of the woodwork in response to my comments. You are right tho..Africa is not for the faint-hearted..........best to play it safe after all driving on the Deerfoot in rush hour probably maxes them out...............

Africa is a huge continent. Do your research and do not paint it all with the same brush. If you pick and choose the country and the area of the country carefully and exercise some common sense, it's possible to end up somewhere where you feel safer than in downtown Toronto or Calgary.

Its all about fear and common sense! I am in Africa at moment and would not walk down a dark unlit street at night. Having said that I would not walk down a dark unlit street in Calgary either, just like the chap above mentioned. It is true you can not compare the two places however, no place is safe if you dant have a bit of common sense. Just some places take more then others.

As far as unnecessary risks go......what some consider a risk is just an everyday, simple fact of life, occurance for others. If your thing is to stick around home and continue to be sheltered from the real world by our great media then that is fine. For others new experiences and places are what they thrive on.
