Write the IATRA or Wait?

Post by TopperHarley »

Hey guys,

Out of curiousity, how many people chose not to write the IATRA, but rather simply waited to do the ATP writtens?

In your opinion, is the IATRA worth having, or do you think that no operator out there would even consider hiring someone into the right seat of a 2 crew a/c without the ATPL?

I am thinking of doing the IATRA this winter, and if I do, I will likely consider using the Aerocourse ATPL question book. From what I have heard, the IATRA and ATP writtens are very similar.

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

I would just do it. It opens more doors and only costs $35. Nothing to loose.

Good Luck

If you go up north it would be a good idea to have it done.

Haveing something extra on your resume never hurts, especially when it only costs $35.00.

The cost is minimal, and the exam is not particularly hard. I don't think they've changed it too much in a long time. There are some operators who will hire low time guys with the IATRA. CMA, for example, takes f/o's without the ATPL, but you have to have the IATRA to fly their aircraft. And just like the previous posters said, it never hurts to have something extra on your resume. Hope this helps.

Why not get a custom licence plate at the same time?

IATRA

Bonus points for a neon light licence frame. The chicks will tear your clothes off in the parking lot. Trust me on this.

If you read the CARs carefully, once you have 750 hours the ATPLs will count for the IATRA.

However it is only $35 dollars, and anyone wanting to put you in the right seat of a "high performance" airplane will need it. No reason not to do it.

Why not get a license plate with

"High Performance " on it.

If you park in the right place maybe Svend would tear your clothes off.

For sure being a pilot trained in all those exotic " Complex " and " High Performance " machines gets my heart racing just thinking about it.

Thanks guys, I will plan on writing it during the winter.

Now, I am planning on using the ATP Aerocourse book as a study reference- is this a good idea? I don't mind if this involves a lot more studying and reading, as long as it gets the job done. I would think that the ATP writtens are more complex, so there should not be a major issue in using ATP info for the IATRA (although I could be wrong...)

Also, if you can offer any tips/pointers, I'd appreciate it (i.e. should I focus mostly on 703/704, or is the exam a random selection of 604, 702-705 operations?).

Thanks again,

Chris.
