Headset choices

Post by Brize »

Any suggestions on which one for the Dash?
I think I read the 25 is ANR totalling a 30dB reduction combined with passive. Is the 45 ANR as well?

I'll save you the trouble...as a newhire, you can't order the 25, only the 45. It's light, and the noise cancelling works pretty well, but it's not the most comfortable headset on a long day (due to the fact that the earpieces are plastic plates covered with a thin layer of foam). You can pick up cushioned earpieces in the crew room...they make the headset more comfortable, but the noise cancelling doesn't work nearly as well (in fact, it doesn't make it any quieter...just different noise).

Hope that helps...for what it's worth, at least the price is right!

The 45 is designed for use in jet aircraft. The design of this particular headset is intended to reduce "windscreen noise" so that you do not have to crank up the volume of the radio. It is in my opinion a totally useless type of headset for the Dash. The 25 is better suited and it is a joke that the company does not see to it that the 25 is offered to the Dash pilots.

Your choice if on the dash is to either use your own or the 45 and put your name on a wait list for a 25.

I've been on the waitlist for the 45 for a year, still nothing.

I actually don't mind the 25, it is a little uncomfortable after a long day but on the plus side it's light small and doesn't burn through batteries too quickly. It's better than lugging around a set of DC's.

I don't fly the Dash, but I've been using the -25s on turboprops for over two years now. I love it. I find it's far more comfortable then DCs.

Telex makes the 850 as well. Not as much passive noise canceling as the 25 or 45 but so comfortable, you can wear it all day long.

I've got a pair of Telex headsets, which I've had from the time I was on the 727. They're small, light and I find them pretty good even on the Dash 8. Sometiimes, I don't even realize I have them on.

I've got the Telex 850 and they're fine for the 737, I don't know if they would be enough for the dash or RJ.
