Okay, I kind of poked fun at you. I am sorry. BUT This is the new face of aviation people. Take a long hard look. We have guys losing marks if they don't wear a uniform to SCHOOL! Am I missing something here? Do these colleges think they are training grounds for NASA?? Get with the priorities! How you DRESS when you're learning to fly SHOULD be a non issue!
We've got flight schools running around acting like little West Points???

Do what you got to to do man. If you want a sweater and you need it with epaullettes, then get it. Some people just won't get it, get used to it. In this industry everyone has got an opinion about everything...today its your sweater...tomorrow it will be you pack your lunch when you fly....the next day it will be problem with your aviator glasses...and then it will be than you have too many vowels in your last name.
As for the flying club versus college....well if I can go to a subsidized school as opposed to paying 50k then I'll take the tuition and the uniforms to save money. After all it's still the same license.
One last thing, flying diploma or degree programs are sometimes the only route financially for people who want to fly due to the availability of student loans for these programs.

Doc, I am devil's advocating here, not attacking, and this is addressed to everyone, so please enduldge me. Who cares? Is it a detriment to their ability to aviate? Some people, as bad as it is, tend to act in a more professional manner when they dress as a professional would. I am of the mindset that the seat of the airplane should make you act as a professional, but that's just me.Doc wrote:Okay, I kind of poked fun at you. I am sorry. Really, isn't this about a touch of resentment? A kid just about to solo hasn't earned his white shirt and epauletts through the hard work and royal ass-kicking that this industry is so quick to dish out. So all the big boys that use the stupid hat and white shirt (as well earned as it may have been) to get laid and admire themselves in the mirror each morning get all in a huff. Not necessarily you Doc, we share the pretty much the same uniform. This is just more of a broad statement of my observations as of late.
Now if someone said: white shirts will always get dirty after a CORRECT walk around on any piston aircraft; then you'd have a leg to stand on. But the way some took such great offense, makes me wonder.

i dont think its part of the dress code. he's looking at a group buy here it seems. if it was a required dress code, the school would be responsible for supplying them, not the students.El Comat wrote:I agree that wearing the bars as a student is ridiculous. However, don't knock the student if it's required dress code by the school. What is he supposed to do???? You should be asking the head of the program if HE has any idea how silly he's making his students look. Having gone through the "forced" dress code thing, I know how frustrating it is to have people constantly pass judgment on you, without ever meeting you, simply because you wear a shirt and tie to school.Doc wrote:I've never understood the use of "uniforms" at flight schools???? You have no idea how GAY you look, all looking like little pretend airline captains.
EC
