That triangular "G" on the tail I am quite sure was Gateway Aviation's logo.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Yes, it is Gateway's twin otter, registration was C-FJCS. We were living in Yellowknife at the time, my husband was flying for Ptarmigan, year was either '78 or 79. Brought the whole town out when the helicopter arrived to lift it out. Watched it drop back into the ice, but they did get it out. Good news, no one was hurt....great entertainment in the back bay that day! Terry said it was coming back from a trip up in the Barrens, landing there to be changed from ski's to either floats or wheels.

it's not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish but a few steps are required.

Go to http://www.photobucket.com

In the top right there's a red box Join Now

Pick a username and a password, follow the steps

Once you've created an account you will have the option of uploading the pictures 3 at a time. Go to browse, fing the pic on your computer, and click upload. It will take a few minutes.

Once the pics have been uploaded, each one will have a few options under them. You want to left click the one that says IMG code.

That action copies everything you need, then paste the contents into the message body on this site and the pic should appear for us to see.

Complicated at first but if you have problems we'd be happy to help.

Thanks .

It was dropped back into the bay when the helicopter got into forward flight. Supposedly the T.O. started to fly under the helicopter. They then put nets over the wings to disturb the airflow before lifting it again.
It happened right of off the Tindi point, but closer to Jollif island.

I flew from Yellowknife to Coppermine in 1971 on JCS. It belonged to Northward Aviation at the time. Dunc Matheson was the pilot and the in-flight service was KFC courtesy of one of the pax. I sat on mailbags since they ran out of seats.

Seatbelts? We don't need no stinkin' seatbelts!

This was defiantly a Gateway aircraft. Everyone else pulled off the ice at least one week before they dropped thru the ice. I believe they had came down from the north on skies the night before and just changed to wheels so they could fly it to the airport. Yes it was dropped when being lifted. The reason was the Chinook crew got over anxious and did not allow enough imd for the water to drain. It was to heavy and busted the cable lines they were using. When the cables busted they shot up and took out a hydraulic line on the bottom of the helicopter. The crew made a B-line for the airport over down town with hydraulic fluid blowing out all over the place. The second lift they took their time and let the aircraft drain water. Although when it went over the highway by Long Lake the water was still coming out at a good rate.
