Why are we all retarded? The people that train for the tune of about 50 grand give or take. put two or more years into their training. then work at jobs that pay 3 and a half to 5 dollars an hour, with hopes that one day they can work for a company making crappy wages for the next few years flying crappy machines, gaining experience neccessary to become dedicated, competent, professional pilots, moving people around safely in big aluminum tubes at speeds the average individual doesn't understand. And I think that a career as a manual labourer might not be equal to that of a pilot and they should not compare?! (as it seems do others) I must be in left field. If I am way off base please explain the errors of my thinking. A reasonable expanation and I will take back my comments.

Well ask someone who works (if you know one) at any Chrysler Assembly Plant. $27.75/hr and up for an Assembly Line Labourer. They may be better qualified to respond to your redundant rant! I'm not saying your job should pay less or more, as you shouldn't judge what other workers get paid.
And yes, you are very close or even past left field!

Cheers

North Shore wrote:Are higher wages realistic, though? Say, $45k to start, and $5k a year until $70k in the right? What does the company then say to the bag chuckers/wrench benders/ biscuit shooters when they want comparative raises?
I spoke to a lead the other day in YYZ who made over 90 grand last year with overtime. I think we should be the ones wanting comparative wages.
Sure, but that wasn't my point..it was that a $10k raise to 45k is ~33% increase. if you give that to the pilots, then everyone else will fall in line with their hands out too....

The fact that Flight attendants are making more than pilots is not the question that should be asked. Pilots have a certain skill set as do flight attendants; don't compare yourself to another group it will just frustrate you. The Question that must be asked and has been done so time and time again is why pilots always sell out the Junior guys. The current pay-scales are a testimony to that.

Having now worked on "Both" sides of the door The reason why pilots are getting paid less is due to their own lack of regard for their brothers and sisters who are junior in their respective companies and absolute rejection of any responsibility to the state of wages for pilots in the rest of Canada. Hence the reason I took a 40% pay cut leaving AC as an FA to be a Pilot. Regrets? Absolutely none. I loved being an FA but my heart was into being a pilot more (since I was 4 in fact).

The inability to find sustained employment as a pilot for any stretch of time forced me to become an FA. Doing both jobs at the same time. Now working full time as a pilot I find it even more interesting that there continues to be a lack of interconnect by those pilots who are with the majors and those in the tier 3 and 703 operators. In my mind it would seem to me that most of those in the majors would want to be integrating the "up an comers " into the fold so as to assist creating a united front on all sides to facilitate more wage parity across the board. This to ensure we don't perpetuate the apparent injustice of poor wage scales industry wide.

ACPA , ALPA and other pilot associations should be working to better the entire industry by setting examples as to fair compensation for all represented pilots. It will invariably have a trickle down effect and permit even further increases as the bar is raised to a point where the work we perform is given the respect it deserves.

my two cents
