Things are going to get better.

I've noticed a fair bit of pessimism regarding landing jobs as a pilot especially for low timers. Just thought I’d post this link to the gov job futures website. Things are looking up! Keep flying!

That was written by people who have absolutely no clue as to the current conditions.

Wage growth significantly above average? Does anyone here have a single example of a company that has raised it's starting wage in the last few years? One case? Anyone?

Unemployment rate of %3.9? This is the percentage of professional pilots (for lack of a better term) who are not working at all. It does not reflect the thousands of pilots in this country who are trying to find a flying job while working somewhere else. Does anyone consider someone with a commercial licence and a McJob (or even a ramp job) because there is no flying work to be an employed pilot?

They also state that you will be competing with recent graduates, and that most new jobs will be in the regional airlines. How many recent graduates get hired on with the regionals?

The number of job openings will slightly exceed the number of job seekers. So there will be openings for pilots that cannot be filled because there are no pilots to fill them.

It seems obvious to me that this report was prepared by people who cannot count.

However, that does not change the fact that things are indeed getting better.

The report that outlook was derived from is tainted ataac dribble! The study was chaired by someone from the flight school industry and is obviously geared to get more pilots trained to lower industry wages and create a boom for FTO's. ATAAC is your enemy. Long live CAAP.

rofl...

One accurate sentence though
You're more likely to succeed if you build your "people" and teamwork skills
IE, if your daddy works for Air Canada. Or if you have knee pads.

Ahrahim, the starting wage at my company has increased significantly, as have wages for senior pilots.

Its true, perimeter is giving the pilots shells along with the peanuts now  . Didnt perimeter have some union go in there and that why the wages went up? None the less, disco kid is right.

Something else increased at the big green machine too, the time spent in the cargo dept is close to 2 years, not only that, time spent in another dept is now manditory b4 u get a chance at a groundschool. Surplus of pilots working in cargo and other departments for wages nobody else would.

Not to bash perimenuer to badly, there are lots of companies doing the same, at least perimeter is passing on the savings to the pilots.

That report almost sounds like a template for the "glitzed up" college/school recruitment campaigns promising aviation life after 100 hrs.
