Jazz and AC?

Post by Aether »

I'm thinking about going to Jazz but I have a few questions that I hope someone who already works there can answer for me. My ultimate goal is to go to Air Canada and I am wondering if going to Jazz can help me accomplish that goal.

1) I've heard that you will automatically get an interview with AC after two years if you want is this true?

2) If you interview with AC and get the job does any of your seniority towards pay transfer with you? ie. if you are year 3 Jazz and go to AC do you start at the bottom again or will you be year 3 pay at AC?

3) Is the pension at Jazz and AC the same? If so does your pension transfer with you if you move over to AC? or is there someway to buy it back? or do you start again?

4) I realize that AC and Jazz are two separate companies but are they truly independent from each other when it comes to labour? Is Jazz a true contractor for Air Canada?

Excuse my ignorance on the matter, I'm just trying to figure out what is going to work best for me.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me I searched through past posts but couldn't find answers that really answered my questions.

Under the current LOU 18 at AC. any connector pilot who applies to AC will be granted an interview. If hired you will likely be frozen at Jazz until you have been on your current equipment for at least 24 months. (in order of their seniority at the connector) (do a search on here for LOU 18 to get the whole picture)

You will be allowed to carry a max of 4 yrs seniority over with you for the purposes of pay and vacation. IE you would start at 4th yr flat pay.

The pensions are totally separate, meaning that you would have to start over. I'm not sure if you are able to buy some years back on the ACPA pension.

As far as the pilot groups go, Jazz and AC are totally separate companies. AC is however Jazz's biggest customer and as such has put some restrictions on what we can do under the terms of the agreement. (scope clause etc.)

Currently ACE (the mother corp for the entire AC family) is in the process of being closed down. From what I understand (and I am far from understanding it all believe me!! LOL) when that happens all the parts will be separate entities, completely independant from each other.

Jazz is not a guaranteed way to Air Canada. If you really want to go to AC, then apply there and keep applying until you get an interview. Jazz is a great place to work, but I would hate to see you come to here thinking it was your ticket to Air Canada, and then being disappointed if it didn't happen.
