MNR King Air Captain...
Anybody know if they supply the walker, or would you have to bring your own? I've heard they don't like to fly very much....
Re: MNR King Air Captain...
It doesn't have the glamour of hauling nates out of Pikangikum, does it Doc?

60-75k a year is bad for a King Air Capt?Rudy wrote:So that's why the pay sucks.
What's the standard then?

Re: MNR King Air Captain...
They go to Pik, and other fine points in northern Ontario....
If you base it on how much you actually work it comes close to 500$/hr
I spent just over 3 years working there, can't say I miss it one bit..
Good job for people who love endless amounts of red tape, not flying, and working in one of the most negative atmospheres I've ever encountered...the job gave me LOTS of interview material
That being said I met some awesome people there, especially Wendy the flight co-ordinator in YYZ, she's the only reason that place ran as well as it did in my opinion....and I got to drink beers with those crazy 415 drivers once in awhile, even managed to scam a ride in a 415...highlight of my three year stint
Cheers

Re: MNR King Air Captain...
Looking for some more details on this posting...
Where do they base the King Air?? I gather from this thread that it does not fly too much, true?? What kind of flying and schedule could one expect to have?? What do they use the King Air for, is it mostly for moving personnel during fire season, or something else??
thanks

I think they base one King Air in YAM, at least they used to when I was there. Took a look inside the 350 one day, what a nice machine.

One in YYZ one in YAM. fly around the executive branch of the Ontario government, and some internal government charters expect to fly 200hrs a year tops.
Shedual is decent, your days off are sacred if you want them to be, don't expect to work much though like I said. I sometimes went several weeks without turning a prop.
Flying is mostly within ontario although once inawhile you'd get trips to the states (New York, Washington, Chicago) and out of province. When Bartleman was Lt. Gov we were up north quite a bit into all the hot spots such as Pik, Cat Lake and Poplar hill (and many more!) You will do a lot of flying to YOW, YSB etc and sit for a 12 hour stint, then back to YYZ or, spend a few days.
You don't actually do much flying for the MNR itself, it was funny, I moved on to fly for Walstens out of Kenora and did more MNR flying than when i was with the MNR
Cheers
