Buying a PPC! What a novel idea. Or how to become popular with your peers! "Hey everybody, look at me, I have a PPC!!!!"
Get it the old fashoned way.....EARN IT! Get a job flying one!
I'd sure like to know which sleeze bag company would touch somebody with a "bought" PPC?

And after knocking on about 80 to 100 operators doors and being rejected, what do you suggest I do? I have 450 hours total time which includes 92 hours on floats and 76 hours on twins. I have been as far west as Victoria, B.C. north to Smithers, B.C. to the oil sands of northern Alberta, Manitoba and northern Ontario.
Where can I go next to search for that ultimate job? Any suggestions?
I am not trying to be sarcastic, just realistic.

Sorry, kid, but 450 hours total time isn't going to get you on a Caravan these days. Not unless you know someone.

If you really feel the need to ho yourself out, I'd suggest talking to some operators and telling them that you'd be willing to pay for your own training. But then again, do you really want to work for someone who'll take that offer? And do you really want the other drivers in the company to know that you're willing to do that?

And 92 hours on floats isn't going to cut it either, from what I've been hearing. Word on the street is that many insurance companies are requiring 200 hours on floats ON TYPE before they'll cover you. That may not be true of right seat work, though.

Besides all that, guess how many 1000 to 2000+ hour pilots there are out there right now waiting to get into something like a Caravan? Pretty sad, huh?

Good luck to you. :?

helinas :

Flapperons is right, all you can do is just keep plodding along.

We all had to start from zero and it is not easy.

But DO NOT waste your money on a Caravan PPC.

thanks guys for the info, it is frustrating out there. When I started my float training in the month of September 2001 I got a couple of offers from float operators that with about 50 hours I could hook up with them, but then here comes 9/11 and everybody wants 100, 200 and 250 hours on floats because of insurance. How can the average joe afford another 100 or so hours on a float at $175 an hour? I will not quit or give up but just plugging away at it, maybe build up some float time and bring it up to about 150 from the 92 that I have now.

Good just hang in there:

Common sense will dictate that unless low time float plane pilots are given a chance to work and learn we will have to park all float planes as the experienced pilots leave.

We all are in your corner and hope you get something soon, just stick to it.

Before you consider spending money on a ppc .Ask these questions
Would you be approved by the company's insurance to fly for them ?
What are the insurance requirement to fly for the majority of Companies operating 208's.
Why would you spend money on a single turbine a/c when twins are the same price?and more jobs ?The insurancerequirements believe it or not, are the biggest hurdle for most new starts.
with out getting into the long debate about pft some of the companies offering flight training in a 208 are doing that as part of there business .Paying for training does not automatically get you a job just a lot of empty promises
