Air Canada 777 Drivers.
Just a heads up for you guys operating from Sydney and using 34L (saw one go last week and did the full procedure). Not absolutely sure it applies, however, when QF and UA flights going direct the west coast of the US (due to the extreme distance), "REQUIRE right turn", when getting clearance from Sydney Clearance Delivery, you can go straight ahead off 34L. You don't have to do the stupid turn to the west and fly out to Richmond. Will cut heaps of track miles off your departure. Might wanna get someone to check, but I'd say YVR would qualify.

Run it by one of the MLOs in YYZ first but I agree YVR complies. BTW, you won't find many AC 777 pilots on this forum.

Well, I'm one, albeit a newbie to the machine.

Gotta ask this question to the air Canada pilots. What is it like adjusting to the side stick on the A320/330/340, especially if you have never been exposed to it(which i assume most initially wouldn't). This may sound silly but is it hard to hand fly with it, like steep turns and general stick(pardon the pun) and rudder flying

Most people don't take long to adjust to the stick. What I found different was the thought of the airplane computers having the last say in my control inputs. But heck, in my case that was probably a good thing anyways.

To me personally, I would think flying for Air Canada would be fun as you can/will get to fly different types ie 4 engine with side stick, 2 engine with side stick. Long haul international(that would be for me) and if you tire of that or need a change, well it's the A320 and EMB-90 blasting coast to coast and dealing with all the different WX - never a dull moment I bet.
Then on to the B777 which I understand is the next stepand quite a machine. I saw upfront picture of the B787, man that has got to be something............. wish I wore a younger man's clothes

The variety is certainly a plus. keeps life interesting and there's always the next stage to look forward to. The new equipment arriving is something we're very excited about because it opens up even more route possibilities as well as cost savings. It is amazing how far we've come since my training days in the seventies. Better times ahead for sure.
