Hey Rowdy, only a true bush pilot still wears jeans in -30.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." -Nietzsche

Very nice picture! Reminds me the good old days... However, it's the first time that I see a DC-3 on skis with a passenger door. Usually, they are fitted with a cargo door... Do you know where this picture has been taken?

The earliest DC-3's had the door on the other side of the fuselage. PemAir had one of the early ones.

Re: Pic from a swamper
As far as i can recall, it was Wakeham Bay, in Ungava District (don't know the new "politically correct" place name), winter of '65. The aircraft in question CF-ETE, was delivered to the RAF after construction at the end of WW2, and disposed of to Crown Assets. It was purchased by the T. Eaton Company from Canadair after WW2. It was in the conversion line for TCA at the time, that's why it has the airtstair door and aft baggage compartement, instead of the conventional two-section door. It was later modified to the Hi-Per configuration for Eatons, by Pan American World Airways. The mod involved P&W R2000 engines, two additional fuel tanks in the outer wing panels, undercarriage doors, disc brakes and different props. It was purchased by the Hudsons Bay Company Northern Stores in 1963, and the ski kit was installed for winter service all over the Arctic. After a stellar career with the HBC, it passed through a couple of owners, and ended its days, wrecked, in the jungles of Central America, reportedly on a mission to supply Contra forces friendly to the U.S. Government.skyrocket wrote:Very nice picture! She was a "Queen of the Skies" in every sense of the word, and came to a sorry end.

Lense cleaner won't help this one. It is scanned from a slide, taken with cheap film 'cause that was all I could afford at $425.00 a month. .
