Private Career Colleges Act & flight training

Post by dangerous »

How are all the flight training units doing under the PCCA? There was much discussion on here about it earlier on in the year, but I haven't heard anything about it in the last few months. I'm pretty sure it was implemented in September. Has anything changed at the FTUs (for better or for worse)? Is there anything going on to fight its applicability to flight training?

No one has any info on this? Wow, it was a pretty hot topic on here earlier last year.

Things are in motion as we speak about this actually.

We have lost 7 flights schools so far since the implementation of the PCCA. Most (but not all) of the flight schools in Ontario have formed the Ontario Flight Training Providers Association (OFTPA) to get together and tackle this issue and represent the flight schools. This group includes fixed wing AND helicopter flight schools. It also has the backing of several municipal airports and a few other key players in the aviation industry (They elude me at the moment). Surprisingly though, COPA has refused to back the flight schools on this issue. We have had several meeting with the Ministry and they visited AFC in North Bay to see first hand what/how a flight school operates.

If you work for a school that isn't a member of the OFTPA or hasn't been contacted and would like to join you can contact Stef at Algonquin Flight Centre in North Bay. AFC took the lead on this and helped form the OFTPA. Stef and several other representatives make up the executive.

Any other questions?

AFC's phone number is (705) 840-5754

Propellers are nothing but fans for powered pilots. Turn them off and watch them sweat.
