If you're girl is really that into the environment, then it sounds like BC might be the place for you. It has a booming economy right now (partly because of the Olympics) and it's about the most environmentally conscious province of Canada. It is also a hotspot for marine biology with all sorts of research into fish farming, whales, sea life management, artificial reef construction etc.

Vancouver Island (don't let the name fool you, it's a big freakin island) has a lot to offer, and is also growing fast.

Thanks for the advice, I've spent a reasonable amount of time with the atlas in front of me, and yep, Vancouver Island is a rather large chunk of land... What's industry like over there? Any chance getting a job in a bank (predominantly treasury) or as an electrical engineer? From what I understand, Toronto is where the majority of the banking happens (well the treasuries anyway) and to a lesser extent, Calgary...
