Jobs adds.......show us the money!!!

Post by gongshowking »

Why is it so rare for people to shed more light on their pay scale? I speak mainly about float operators, anyone with experience these days can find a fairly cushy or reasonably paying job (full time and in a city/town). I think for anyone to go back to some northern dive it would only be for money. If were hiring and wanted someone with experience i would at least elude to good pay.

You know, there are probably some people on this site that live in the north and dont consider them "dives". And believe it or not, some people actually like to do that type of flying..single pilot and working...not a "cushy" job.

The vast majority of northern operators are paying quite good wages and the type of work and area are of interest to some.

I feel you let to many of your own prejudices slip into your post.

you both right

it shoud be mandatory for "advertisers" to post their wages, ut any bashing thread regardings those adds should be erased.
Lets remmember this P31 operator wanting you to stay with him for more than 1 year "and then go".
the question is: what do you offer to keep your people ?

This is the norm:

Salary and benefits are above average and will be paid in accordance with your experience

$dependent upon experience – let’s talk.

Salary:$ Competitive

Salary:Commensurate with experience, but competative with for the area.

Whatever any of that means, i just think the details and requirements listed to screen out flocks of resumes isnt balanced by the details we would like to know. People are going to apply anyway even if you tell them youre going to pay them 2000 a month to live in BF manitoba......so tell us the PAY!! Everyone looks at these job adds and some people might be more tempted to move around if they knew the incentive.

The thing is some operators are now willing to pay more for a new hire, with a fair bit of experience. They sometime are willing to pay more than what they give their current pilots.

If they disclose those figures, there are gonna be a couple of angry dudes(dudettes) at work the next day.

They're shopping, just like you guy's are doing...They want a pilot with the most experience, but at the cheapest cost as possible. If pilot A can do the same job as pilot B,but he's a 1000$ cheaper per month, at the end of a 6 month season that's 6000$. You do the math...If you'd be that employeur what would you do.

and ?...

if pay was mandatory in the adds that would stop pimping, salaries would become a bit more realistic and would give everybody a way to level other offers.
then each of us could apply knowing exactly what there is really at the end of the line.
so we could talk about an industry with wages for each type and experience and not only the "I'm worth it" complex of certain applicants and/or employer.

may be in wonderland ?

gongshowking, you need to see someone about your attitude because believe me you are in bad of an adjustment.....especially if you are a pilot who is looking for any career advancement.

thanks for the pep talk....but my career is going really great. Youre the one who comes on to every forum with some negative comment. You always have a bone to pick with anyone who disagrees with you, so whatever. I was just making a point about the job postings on this site. They are always the same and say little if anything about the income...perhaps you can direct your comments to the topic of the forum if you have such a depth of wisdom and knowledge.

Two suggestions.

(1) Contact the company and get the details about the job from them.

If you are not satisfied with that.

(2) Start your own company and advertise for pilots the way you feel it should be done.

Incidentally while we are on this subject, I was looking for pilots a few months ago and posted the pay because it was right at the top of the pay scale anywhere on earth for the type of flying.

By the way it is unlikely you would have met the flying qualifications or met the attitude standards.

I love the "good old boy" vibe you bring...its really endearing. You and your loyal following of crusty negative posters can make all the bets you like and pat yourself on the back. Its guys like you that have turned avcanada into a forum of disagreeing and bitter childish remarks rather than useful information. Once again you like to take over a forum...drive it into the ground. If you have so much time to post why dont you get another one of your "you vs TC" forums going...where we all get to here you whine and moan for 60 pages. You cant come on here and claim to know what anyones experience levels are just because you feel you are the pope of canadian aviation.

First of all, I dont think it is necessary for companies to post wage scales when they advertise. There is time to discuss that later in the process.

However, I do believe that companies should have a published wage scale and stick to it. Nothing lowers morale more than wage discrepencies, where pilots are paid on their negotiating skills and not on their flying skills.

As to the discussion between Cat and gongshow....I have a really hard time imagining how someone's career could be doing so well with the comments gongshow makes regarding those that work in the north...but hey...its a new world out there and companies are desparate.

Hey gongshowking I'm about to shut my computer down for the night but I'm still willing to give you good advice.

Looks like your sort of losing this little game so the best thing you could do is sign in under another name and start all over.
