Off to the Maldives Thanks Everyone!

Post by KenoraPilot »

Hey,
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has helped me with information and been around on AvCanada. Finally got the job I have wanted for years. Twin Otter for Borek in the Maldives! I know some of you think its crap and others like it, I guess I'll just have to go and make my own mind! Thanks again! Cheers!!!

1k Can base and 700/month US is what i was told for new FO's.. but remember.. if yer down there for six months.. NO TAX!! plus your accomodations are provided and food is cheap cheap.

Not sure what the capts. or guys with a whack of otter time are getting.

Hey Rowdy, here's some quote's from a couple of your other posts:
4500 a month.. come on!! I bet most of the turbine FO's out there don't even make half that!! and THAT is something we should be bitching about..
and
If you guys read any of my posts you'd see me slagging on a couple of companies that are seriously paying @#$!. 4500/month is almost 3 times what a certain YVR metro operator is paying... and you're not up hours before the sun is..
Now can you please explain to me why it's okay to pay $1700 a month to live in a shithole like the Maldives. Oh and if you think you won't get up before the sun comes up over there, give your head a shake. Last time I checked the Twin Otter was a twin turbine. $4500 is about 3 times as much as you can make in the Maldvies as an F/O. According to you we should be slagging operator's like this. $1700 is BELOW POVERTY LINE.

comparing apples to oranges..

4500/month for a guy with close to 1k to fly a beaver for a summer in the middle of nowhere.. or clean hands flying in the sun sand and surf, with a skipper sitting next to you.. as pretty much an entry level spot for 1700 tax free dollars.. HMMMM in a place that is not costing you anything to live in....

And as far as I can remember.. floatflying is day vfr only.. so if you're up flyin in the dives before the sun comes up, You're breakin the rules...

Well maybe you should ask anyone there then Rowdy. If you think you day starts when the sun comes up you are completely wrong. You have to get up at 4am to get ready then walk 20 minutes to the dhoni, catch the 5am dhoni over to the airport take a 10 minute bus ride from one side of the airport island to the float base and be airborne at 6am. Oh and you get to do it all over again after 14 hours to get home. You will do this 5 days a week. The only tax free money you get is the $700 US which isn't even worth $700 Canadian anymore. And by the way there are deductions of that for things like health coverage. The rest is taxed. A 2000 hour F/O will barely break $2000./month. Food is not as cheap as you think it is. A half descent meal is $10 so basically $30/day. A beer there costs $5 US. So if you think you are going to be living like a king think again. My point here is quit with the double standards sticking up for Borek is like sticking up for the company out of YVR. They are both shitty companies and those wages should not be tolerated. Period.
