IMAGES OF THE WORLD THIS WEEK: DEATH AT 32,000 FEET
Page F2 in Saturday's Globe and Mail (Mar. 1 2008) has a photo of what appears to be a dead Michael Warren sitting in the flight deck of his GB Airways aircraft.
The caption reads: IMAGES OF THE WORLD THIS WEEK: DEATH AT 32,000 FEET
I find this photo to be in extremely bad taste. Did anyone else here see this?

I didn't see the G&M this weekend but CNN had it large and in colour on their website and on the network when the news broke...

Let alone the bad taste of such a picture, who in their right mind would think of pulling out a camera and take a picture of this?
And even worse, sell it to the media?
Probably the same kind of ppl that googled "Steve Irwin death" to try to see his last moments...
It's a dog-eat-dog world.

Re: IMAGES OF THE WORLD THIS WEEK: DEATH AT 32,000 FEET
The media publishes pictures/images of death and gore everyday...all of a sudden the subject of such a picture is wearing epaulets and some take exception....
Selective standard IMHO

Scroll down a little, highflyer, you'll see it. Younger F/O (42?) on a British airline suddenly died in flight from an undiagnosed/unknown ailment. Married with two young children. Sad thing to happen..
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

It varies from country to country how disgusting/disturbing/distasteful pictures like that are. In this unnamed third world country in which I currently find myself; one of the local papers printed a picture of a guy that had hanged himself. Par for the course around here I guess.

The simple truth is we all looked at it. The media is a mirror held up to our faces. If you don't like your news source, change it. No one is forcing you to look at anything.
We need to remind ourselves, from time to time, that high speed cop chases, car accidents and movie star behaviour is not news. These are stories that have no impact on your lives. It appeals to our sense of gore. It also sells newspapers and raises hit counts on websites. Don't blame the messenger.

Hey bob sacamano ,
The person isnt staring at the body....might be ground handling or it might be the police maybe talking to someone through the door. He is to far back to be looking through the window of the cockpit.
I find the picture disturbing maybe someone should write to the editor at the Globe and mail.
Maybe we all should......30 odd letters from pilots ehhh?
I feel for the family..

Lost in Saigon, not only have you done exactly what you acuse the Globe and Mail of doing but you've given them a wider audience.hypocrite - noun
1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
Personally, I agree with bmc. The news is the news. Sometimes it's not pretty or tasteful. The Globe and Mail is just doing its job. News agencies shouldn't be filters.

Should news sources decide what we should be told or not?
Sadly, we are drawn to graphic images. We know it's tasteless and morbid. But we all kinda just want to take a peak.

Re: IMAGES OF THE WORLD THIS WEEK: DEATH AT 32,000 FEET
Yeah, of course we're all gonna take a peek. And it made me feel sick to my stomach. Despite what others here say, usually the papers don't have a picture of the actual corpse. At least not here. His wife probably did not need to see that picture. When other people express distaste for an available image, it makes me even more curious to see it. I guess that's in my nature. I have to agree, however, that I would have been happier if that picture wasn't in the globe, and if I hadn't seen it. I don't believe that the image degrades that pilot's dignity in any way. It's just sad, a depressing little image to make our day just a little bit more depressing...
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

Now that I looked again, you might be right, he could be by the door, or he could be closer staring in as well. I hope it's the former.
