Airbus A380?
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Hurricane or Spitfire?
Something British I think.

Muahaha Cat is wrong! That there's the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
It is the space shuttle Atlantis
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Dont you folks see the big red button? This photo is clearly that of a B2 cockpit
Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
You are getting warm it is British, I guess the glass cockpit is throwing you off ;>)
For a little more help see additional shot below.
And interestingly enough one of the pilots who will fly it was a member of the international team that completed the Operational Evaluation of the A380 and became one of the first pilots to qualify on what is now the world’s largest passenger jet not that it will help you much.

Altimeter, airspeed, oil guages and yoke all suggest a spitfire. The angular cut on the bottom right part of the panel suggest a later mark, as does the compass mirror. Reflector gunsight is missing.
A Mark IX perhaps?

This shot gives a lot of clues.

Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
well its a biplane with a rear gunner, I'm gonna go with swordfish as well
Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
You got it! I thought someone would spot Bob Spence's name in the cockpit. This shows Bob and Chris Hadfield, now in the Vintage Wings Hangar undergoing engine rebuild.

I made an emergency landing at Spence's field a few years ago due to structural failure. After he towed my plane off his runway we went in the hangar to see that stunning aircraft. It is a work of art!

Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
Is there a reason why the...looks like the RPM gauge, is on such a cant? is it to get '0' right at the bottom?
Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
I suspect you are right on the RPM gauge anyone know for sure?
This shot is of the torpedo operators panel which is located below the pilots panel. You can just see the circullar seat . He would actually be lying on his stomach beneath the pilots seat looking through an open hatch in the floor. A small windscreen swings down to protect him from the wind.
Suddenly those Air Canada economy seats don't look so bad!

Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
I seem to recall there was a time that engine instruments were rotated such that a "normal" indication had the needle vertical thus easier to spot anomolous operation during the instrument scan...maybe?
Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
That fire extinguisher on the right side of the
cockpit is a bit troublesome ... note how it
has been mounted so that the release flips
down, which can easily be accidentally done
by anyone climbing into or out of the cockpit.
Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like
loose stuff rolling/flying around in the
cockpit. People can get killed that way. I
know a guy who's radio slid out under
negative G. It smashed him in the face
on the way out and punched a hole in the
canopy

Re: If this was your office what would you be flying?
On the subject of British airplanes. Some years ago, my father built a replica Spitfire and I thought I would post some pictures here for you all to see. It is powered by a 3.8L Ford V6 out of an SHO with a 2:1 reduction drive that he machined and engineered The structure (wings, spars, fuselage, tail) are all built from wood. Everything on this aircraft was made to exact spec as per the original. Through a family contact at Duxford, he was able to obtain an original Spitfire maintenance manual and replicated almost every part he could. There are even a few original spitfire instruments in the panel. This airplane was made at home in the family garage and at the time was my fathers 10th airplane he either rebuilt or built from scratch. Enjoy!
It seems I will have to post the pics in 2 posts!
