Female Friendly Skies ???
Prior to my aviation career I was in the CAF. I'm not going to go into details but when I first started my term it was explained to us that females were in the top 2 percentile when it came to accuracy with a rifle!
Apparently females "in theory" should make the best snipers but due to the extreme physical requirements of a sniper school they don't usually complete the courses.
This might have something to do with hand-eye coordination or patience??? Not sure....
Do WE and by WE I mean the vast majority of pilots who are men, feel that female pilots are at par or better with regards to "Hands on Flying"?
NOTE: For those of you who have some insecurities with the other half I.E.” the chauvinistic bunch” please do not comment.

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
Most women that I know, their main problem is
a lack of confidence with respect to operation
of motorized equipment. I might say that often
they lack mechanical knowledge, but these days
the same is true of the prissy metrosexual city
boys:
Here's a lady that doesn't suffer from a lack of
confidence at the controls of an aircraft:

I really doubt there are more than one or two pilots
(at the most) in Canada that can fly as well as she does.

Those females have FAR better reaction times too!! Some of the best drag racers are women.
For instance

I think hedley said it best.. most just lack the confidence and technical/mechanical knowledge.

Comparing pilot-error accident rates of male and female airline pilots
K. L. McFadden
Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL 60115-2854, USA
Received 20 April 1995; accepted 21 February 1996. ; Available online 19 February 1999.
Abstract
This study analyzes whether differences existed in the pilot-error accident rates of male and female United States airline pilots. Results are based on data of aviation accidents in the years 1986–1992, obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration. The study found that females employed by major airlines had significantly higher accident rates than their male counterparts overall. However, female airline pilots, on average, were less experienced and much younger than males. Male pilot-error accidents were modeled using logistic regression, regressing on age, experience (total flying hours), risk exposure (flying hours in the last 6 months), and employer (major/non-major airline). The male model provided a good fit for female airline pilots as well as for males. After adjusting for variables included in the model, accident rates of males and females were not significantly different. These findings suggest that neither males nor females are a safer pilot group. Airlines should make every effort to recruit and retain experienced females. The key challenge for managers of airline flight operations is to learn how to manage diversity in the workplace, while maintaining the highest level of safety.

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
I flew with women pilots in the CF in the Eighties. These individuals were as good as the guys. Of course, among male pilots there are different ability levels, and it was the same for the ladies. I had no problem being co- or AC for a woman.

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
Working as an instructor I had many female students, like Rowdy said they quite often lack the technical/mechanical knowledge. However, they definately made up for that with motivation and effort.
In the end, some of my female students turned out to be the best pilots!

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
What's with YOWFLYER and starting threads that are more than likely going to turn into debates? First it was FTU's vs Colleges, now Men and Women, what's next? Airbus vs Boeing is already a big one on airliners.net, instructing vs bush is already discussed on here, so what can we think up next?
Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
Whats wrong with debate? Or should we go back to spreading rumors and trolling for pay for PPC fish? A little intelligent debate is good.

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
Retards come in all shapes, sizes, sexes and creeds, same as our standouts...what's to debate here? Speaking of female aviators...look at ol' Riel on Jetstream; a potrait of perseverence; she's got my respect just the same as the other guys that run those -18's at the top of their game.

Gee Hedley, who's the other guy that's as good as her?Hedley wrote:I really doubt there are more than one or two pilots

I think the biggest issue that women have to deal with as pilots is the relative scarcity. Just because they're not that common, they stand out - like it or not. And since they stand out, they often get an unfair amount of attention if something goes wrong. A guy screws up and it's just one more butthead error that no one tends to remember afterward. However, a female pilot does and everyone talks about "that lady pilot" and it becomes somewhat memorable. And by inference or association, tends to color the attitude towards all women aviators. Not fair at all, but one of the basic problems faced by any minority. And as the majority, guys really have to work at not accepting or spreading that insidious kind of prejudice.
Being stupid around airplanes is a capital offence and nature is a hanging judge!

Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
I've know both good and bad on both sides. In the end a person is a person.
Re: Female Friendly Skies ???
First of all, as someone else said, pilots are pilots, good and bad. Dont think gender makes any difference in flying skills.
BUT...I have noticed many many times that female pilots advance very quickly, and often before they are really experienced enough, into more complex machinery and challanging situations. Actually started a thread on this phenonoma some time ago. It is, in my opinion, gender bias.
The result is, as would be with any pilots in the same situation, the possibility of more frequent incidents due, not to them being female pilots, but because they advanced a little to quickly.
I would suspect that if we got by all the PC stuff, there would be many anedotes of "streaming" and the results.
and I emphasize, all other things being equal, I have never really noticed any difference due to gender.

FOR THE LOVE OF BABY JESUS....CAN YOU GURL PILOTS NOT NOT GRUNT AND GROAN IN A TIGRESS MANNER WHILEST ON THE RADIO....
It`s bad enough getting distracted by an attractive voice HOWEVER...it`s double trouble to be distracted by a sensual voice WHILEST doing an approach down to minimums IN ICING!!! Although the ice does help to cool things off a bit...
PS....for all you professional women pilots that about to jump through the screen....it`s a joke....let it go.

i don't blanket-rate anyone or anything
That is really to bad because you are missing out on some great experiences, I have blanket rated many, many of them.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

one of the best Pilots I've ever flown with happens to be a woman, one of the absolute worst...also a woman...
Inbetween are a bunch of men/women
most pretty good, some not so much..
