Where are there flying clubs that have 185s on amphibs that you can get trained on?

I may be way off base on both of the following opinions but I think that most of the amphib. 180's / 185's are pretty much private or at least not owned by flying clubs??? As well think you might have to look to get your float training on straight floats. From there the main difference with amphibs is to remember where you're landing and where your gear is. "GUMP" Where are you currently located?

Just go to your supermarket and practice with a shopping cart.

Great advice......

But what is the connection between a C185 on amphibs. and a shopping cart?

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.

After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

True......but there has to be more to it than that...

......if you want to wreck an airplane the quickest way is give some pilots an amphib. and wait for the accident.

Maybe because both have four wheels with the front two that caster? I kind of thought it was a funny analogy.

How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.

OK, I give. Obviously a low time guy asks a question and you guys are all over him. I myself am a low time guy that with the limited experience I have would like to help. I am sorry if I should just keep my yap shut and let all of you guys with all of this experience tell it as it is and encourage him just to give up before he starts. (unfortunately I've had several whiskies) Yep, you guys got it. Ye hah

I'm afraid the insurance on a 185 with amphibs would probably be prohibitive for a flying club. I would be extremely surprised to hear of any available for rent in Canada.

., I'm surprised at you. The 185 on amphibs even LOOKS like a shopping cart. For a man with such good spelling...

Quite true, I owned one in my last charter company and operated it for a couple of years and my average maintenance cost was $65.00 per hour.....most of the problems were with salt water operations, never operated one in fresh water. The airplane was perfect for the work we did but it is an expensive toy to operate.

Yeh, I guess you have a point.......but to answer the guy who started this thread....it is very unlikely you will find one in a school......if you need a checkout you will probably get it from the company who you get a job with.

If you are really serious about getting a check out on amphibs. I will have a new Husky on Whipline 2100 amphibs soon...

.....I can give you training but it also is an expensive airplane to operate.
For a man with such good spelling...
Yeh, I do O.K. for someone who quit school in grade eight......but it is because I want to...
