they have laid off a couple of pilatapus co-pilots no captains they beefed up over the summer to do some seasonal work in the US and some local tourist camp stuff. actually they are increasing the frequency of their scheduled service at the begining of next week. i think is safe to say that most if not all the companies in northwestern ontario are doing some belt tightening. if you consider that last year was a really good winter road season and the summer was a really shitty fire season with almost no mnr work the cash coming in wasn't and isn't what they are all used to seeing. forecasts are calling for another good year for winter roads...a look around and you will see wasaya is not alone. bearskin will be laying off the 99 drivers anyday now and parking those airplanes... thunder airlines is laying people off and nac no longer has agreements in place with health canada garaunteeing a minimum number of seats on each of thier scheduled flights i think everybody in the market is positioning themselves for leaner times
doc your not so good with details are u?
1st post was from "Avro" I followed with the handle "Avro2" my lame attempt at being clever. i don't think i would call my reply much of an economics lesson it is more my take on whats happening in northwestern ontario lately. you don't have to agree with my thoughts oh and by the way last time i saw walston in YXL they were dropping off half a dozen folks from points north...who do you figure paid for that flight? any chance it was "the tax payers dollars"

Damn,
We dont need no more unemployed Peelots! Hope u boys for the big W get back to work soon. Fingers crossed for a warm winter and slushy roads!!
Doc,
You should be complaining about your tax dollars going to the biggest mooch in the sky...... Air Canada. Then, after wondering how many millions have been squandered on A/C think about the sponsorship scandals for the French. The 48 weeks of EI that a fisherman in Newfoundland is entitled to. The millions in subsidies that the prairie farmer receives. The gun registry for the white liberal women and queers from Toronto and Montreal. The MP's pensions and the raises they seem to vote themselves every few years, and the old white lazy senators who make 100K a year for showing up for 8 days of work in a year. The list goes on and on and somewhere near the bottom you should say, damn Indians! I know they are an easy target and I felt the same way at one time but keeping wasaya and other "indian airlines" flying is maybe 1/10000th of every cent you pay in taxes.

do tell...i share a house with a wasaya driver. It's a lot more than 2 laid off FO's. Much more.
this is quite the bb...i get insulted by one "moderator" on my first post cause he can't temper his distain for the company mentioned in the post and another "moderator" is impling i'm full of shit. nothing like objectivity and even handed moderation...I just relayed what i heard from the inside and expressed what i believe is happening around the patch based on what i see and hear with my own eyes and ears. if i'm wrong correct me, did they close the winter roads on my off days making sure they were in good shape on my working days...did they trick me into thinking it was a good winter road season in 2004? i must have also been on days off for every fire too... i didn't fly one trip for the mnr in 2004. am i the only one that is hearing jv is laying off the 99 guys and parking the machines...didn't suluko work for thunder airlines? he wrote right on this forum that he has just been laid off...if it was much more than 2 what are the real numbers. how many is much more

If you're really that interested in a 'fresh or relevant' 'news flash' ask me next week. As for right now, there's a wage freeze on indefinitely for all employees. That's pretty fresh. And no, it's not hard living life with a negative outlook on things, working for certain companies that don't treat employees very well and have seriously inept management make it quite easy actually. That coment is not directed at a particular company, it's just the way things are.Avro2 wrote:that news flash is about 2 months out of date...got anything fresh or relevant...you guys make it sound like the sky is falling and the door closing is right around the corner, must be hard living life with such a negitive outlook on things

Avro2...you're correct, I did not notice the "2" after the really original "avro" handle. You joined the same day as the "original" avro. You must have spent hours comming up with a handle as original as "avro2"...sure wish I had that "flair" for the dramatic. I mean, there are lots of great handle ideas out there...let me help you out....dipshitz, reallystuned, wishiwereapilot, brainneeded??? Any other ideas folks?
I don't think your remarks are very fitting for a moderator...they don't demonstrate a whole lot of class...let me welcome you to my site by calling you a whole string of names and belittling you...i was warned that you were a piece of work...do you think potential advertising clients would be impressed seeing the moderators chase away the very people they are trying to reach because they expressed an opinion or used a nic the moderator didn't care for.

Don't think that times will be getting any better for these companies any time soon either! Just think, come Jan 20th, we'll all have to call males 206 lbs in the summer! And, oh yeah, don't forget about the new RCAP approaches which will soon be expiring one by one, requiring companies to pay for their own approach design and upkeep at these $hithole destinations....guess that will affect your bottom dollar??
Wait until you see me spool up?Avro2 wrote:I don't think your remarks are very fitting for a moderator...they don't demonstrate a whole lot of class...let me welcome you to my site by calling you a whole string of names and belittling you...i was warned that you were a piece of work...do you think potential advertising clients would be impressed seeing the moderators chase away the very people they are trying to reach because they expressed an opinion or used a nic the moderator didn't care for.

WHOOOOOAAAAAA!!!!! I'm, not taking sides.....yet
but I'm with Avro2 on this. I thought the whole point of this forum was to provide an open and reasonable mode of communication. I know there's a lot of "personalities" on here but then we wouldn't really be pilots if we didn't have any of the other...."cargo" now would we?!!!

This site is a lot less stuffy than some of the other aviation sites out there. It's personable, many on here know one another...also it has also grown as one of the leading sites in Canadian aviation. Many people come here to get the latest gossip, read some job ads, look at the photo album, and read the latest verbal assaults between Capt S&J and I am Birddog. Also Blastor against the rest of the free world.
Also, on the 5th moon of the rising of Jupiter's 3rd star '#182' ...we get a surprise visit from "182driver". It's a sight not to be missed. I think one is coming soon.
Stick around...it's fun here!
