It's been a long haul but today Wednesday April 9, 2008, I wrote and passed the Private Pilot written exam. The last hurdle is behind me and I now hold a PPL as of 16:30 PST

Thanks everyone. Today after work I took my first passenger for a ride, my wife who has been waiting for a year for her ride. She loved it I can't wait for this weekend now
JBI, whats next is my night rating, probably not till fall though. Busy spring coming up at work and in the summer we only get about 4-5 hours of real darkness (around 2200-0300) so it is tough.

Congrats welcome to the club, just curious as to how you got your flight test done before your written though if the written test was the last thing to do?

You only need the have the written done before the flight test for the Commercial and if I remember correctly that is a relatively new thing.

Yes, with the private nowadays they really don't care which test you do first. In my case I have to drive 2.5 hours to the nearest written exam invigilator and the flight test examiner drives up from 4 hours away. My instructor had me focus on getting the flight test out of the way (the timing worked out better with flight test examiner) and then I studied my ass off and did the written a week and a half later. Either way, I am just happy it is all done, now I can fly my airplane whenever I want.

There was a guy I know here who didn't do his written until 10 months after his flight test, that is a little crazy to me.

Hey - you planning on doing CPL training? get your buildup time at night dude. Don't fart around in the day unless you're practicing or what ever. Get out there, fly at night and do xc's to rack up hours and get that 100 hour dread done with so that you won't have to worry about it. That's if you're thinking CPL and ATPL.

Since you've been waiting for a year to finish it, enjoy it for a few weeks though. Become a Commercial Student and start spinning your friends LOL... although I know many who boasted about doing so with a Recreational License.

Well E-flyer, its like this. I am not really interested in going commercial, but thats just me. I really enjoy flying for my own enjoyment, and so does my wife. Thats not to say in the future i wont do it, but for now I am just going to enjoy having my private and owning an airplane of my own. Also during the day, I am an AME so I get my fill of aviation work already. Mostly my flying is just for a hobby/recreation. (I will admit, it is a fair bit cheaper for me because of having my AME licence.) I want to get my night rating mostly for travelling.
