Northern Alta. RCMP officer injured in struggle with armed pregnant woman

3 Jun, 8:24 PM

HIGH LEVEL, Alta. - An RCMP officer in northern Alberta is recovering from a wound to the hand after trying to take a knife away from a suicidal pregnant woman.

Police in High Level say officers went to a residence early Sunday evening after getting word of a despondent person who barricaded herself in a room upon their arrival.

As officers were trying to calm the woman, they saw her slashing her neck with a knife.

Police chose to physically take the weapon away from her, after deciding not to use their electronic stun gun to disarm the woman because of concerns for her unborn child.

A constable who was injured during the scuffle is being treated for potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.

The woman was taken to the hospital in High Level for examination.

What, a cop putting someone elses welfare ahead of his own? Welcome news, and good for him. Hope he didn't catch anything as a result.

Its a lie, see the other threads, RCMP officers should have nothing to fear over a little penknife.

Good for him for taking the unborn kid into consideration, but I think it shows that these knives can hurt.

Either they can potentially cause harm to an individual (like, say, an 80 year old recuperating from heart surgery and pneumonia), or they don't.

It is unfortunate the officer got cut. That's the nature of police work. Nobody is forced to sign up for the job.
Not all cops are good, and not all cops are bad, they're all human make mistakes like the rest of us. Nobody forced him to sign up, but like the RCMP or not, I'm glad we have them. They are far from perfect just like any, but would you rather lawlessness? I tend to appreciate the ones like this guy who take a risk to do the job the best they can.
