DC-3s, C47s and Dakotas
Can anyone tell me whether a list of all of these aeroplanes surviving in Canada today is available, please?
Re: DC-3s, C47s and Dakotas

in the air section
go to civil aviation
general aviation
aircraft leasing and registration
canadian aircraft register
quick search
in the common name, write douglas
you have there the list! when you check them, maybe some of them have no more airworthness certificate, it will be written in red.

Enterprise aviation has turbine DC 3s ( Basler 67), Buffalo airways hs a few DC 3's, not sure of where else, think you can do a search on the TC website.

Do a quick search on the model name beginning with "DC3" "C47" and "R4D" all return hits.

no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

I saw two in the hangar at Geneseo, NY a couple weeks
ago. It's just south of Rochester (not very far). If you
like old stuff, ya gotta go. When I arrived there on a
weekday, there was a B-17 doing circuits, and a Beech
expediter ready to go.

Green ones are in YZF or YQF.
White with bits of blue and gold are in Oshawa.
We have a red one.
The CP coloured one is in YXY.

Re: DC-3s, C47s and Dakotas
In the winter of 1975, I apprenticed in Norman Wells with Gateway Avaiation.
I was young and keen ... it was really exciting ... good memories ... flew along in the jump seat whenever I could ...
The two DC-3's were registered RTB (Real Tired Bird) and QJZ ...
Anyone know where they ended up?

There are a couple in Red Deer in un-pristine condition. I think one is ex-Transport Canada. A serach on the registration data base might not show some of the ones that are sitting around.
There's also a nice one on a pole in Yellowknife and a really nice one at the forces base in Winnipeg. Is Plummer's lodges still operating one ouf of Great Bear Lake? And how about Points North? Any of their old carcasses around?

Last one I flew was this one. It belonged to QCM and I did one trip on it with their CP in 1976. It had R2000 engines, I seem to recall we filed 160 kt.

Hey, Siddley they sure were nice flying airplanes weren't they.

CID maybe you meant Whitehorse? Max Ward's Bristol Freighter is in YZF - don't remember a DC-3 there.

Yeah, they sure were Cat. I seem to recall 23 inches gave you 105 kt on the ILS. I flew with some of the old timers around here - Frank Burney, Fritz Bleuthner, Mike Beaudoin - it was an education.
What was that bloody star valve on the hydraulic panel for?

Re: DC-3s, C47s and Dakotas
There are couple of DC-3s in Val-D'or right now. Doesn't look like their going anywhere anytime soon though. One of them has what looks like skis laying next to it. Will take pics and post in the next day or 2.
Cheers!

Re: DC-3s, C47s and Dakotas
The Hydraulic Shut-Off (Star) Valve is only opened to allow the hydraulic system pressure to be built up by means of the emergency hydraulic pump prior to starting engines; at all other times, keep this valve closed. In the event that the system pressure cannot be maintained by the engine driven hydraulic pumps, pressure through the emergency hydraulic pump can be supplied to any of the hydraulic operated systems as desired when the hydraulic shut-off valve is closed.Siddley Hawker wrote:What was that bloody star valve on the hydraulic panel for?

Hey Snoopy, that Bristol in Yellowknife had a family of hippies living in it the year I was there.

Also had a large cargo door hinged at the top located on the left side more forward than the C-47.ehbuddy wrote:How about the LI 2........
