Hiring Question

Post by SkywestCRJ »

I currently work as an FO on the CRJ in the US. I recently converted my FAA license to a TC license and was wondering about AC's hiring. I have around 2500 hours TT and about 1000 turbine/turboprop time. I have no airline PIC time but around 1000 hours Cessna/Beech etc PIC time. What are my chances of getting an interview at AC with these hours. That is if AC is still hiring.

Unfortunately for you, AC is no longer hiring and from what we are seeing in the industry it may be a long while before any new hires are seen. We will be happy if there are no layoffs...

WestJet's hiring if you like telling shitty jokes, picking up gum wrappers and snot rags in the back, circle gerking, wearing cowboy boots and leather jackets, saying YAHOOOO, buying your headset, flying one type for the rest of your miserable life and throwing stones in teal glass houses.

I know the above is probably tongue and cheek but underlying this quote is a very serious problem with Canadian Aviation. Rather than throwing comments at our colleagues who are in the same profession but happen to work for another carrier, it would be nice to see some solidarity and mutual respect for professional colleagues and save the insults for the prostitutes of this industry, not the professionals.

Well said JS. Norfolk doesn't seem to grasp that concept. If you have any time in this business you should have friends pretty much everywhere so I can't understand people who hope for other airlines to struggle and fail.

That being said the not so eloquently named "circle jerkers" seem to be limited to a very small albeit vocal minority, and that holds true at every company/airline/porn set.

The only difference between an AC pilot/Westjet pilot/Jazz pilot etc. is timing, luck and circumstance. None are inherently better than the other.

I am glad you two guys made your post because I had to edit my last post because I felt like b--ch slapping Norfolk. He hasn't got a clue what aviation is about. He probably works for AC and feels his job is threatened by WJ so he slams us. Pathetic actually. I have quite a few friends as AC and the last thing I would want to see is them being laid off. They are great guys. I hope AC continues to go about doing business. Because if it is not AC thats competeing with us it will be some pr--k like LeBlanc and we all know how we feel about that clown. Anyways the above mentioned things that Norfolk said that we do at WJ like clean the planes (and trust me this is a 5 minute job) etc, is OUR decision. We saw how much it saved the company ( I believe it was 6 million a year) and we decided to take on this task ourselves and put it into profit sharing. Management didnt make us do this. Besides I kind of like getting to get up and stretch and go in the back and chat with the crew and guests. BUT I do feel sorry for AC for making a mistake and hiring Norfolk (if that is where he works) and to the people that have to work with this jac--ss. In the meantime gents, hear you in the skies!

Here here to the above responses...I've been in this business for 12 going on 13 years and to those who dont think that kind of stuff wont come back and bite you, you are mistaken. This business and your personal career is entirely built on relationships. That attitude and those remarks will eventually usher you to the front of the unemployment line. MHO

What are AC's junior bases? What would be the chance of getting YVR as a new hire?

Skywest: YYZ and YUL are the most junior with YVR and YWG being more senior. YWG only has A320's based there, so it isn't truly a level seniority field there as the bottom spots in the other bases are on different types.
