I am just wondering with ac layoffs etc , will westjet still be hiring in the fall and if yes how many ? Also with guys being laid off from ac i guess wj will hire them rather than guys that do not have any glass experience etc ?

The buzz at WestJet still sounds 'business as usual', aircraft are ordered and route announcements continue. For new pilots, I don't think that WestJet is biased to one group or another. Air Canada pilots have been hired in the past but they are hired alongside Beech 1900 types in the same class.
Also, Air Canada still hasn't started handing out pink slips and I highly doubt that they will because of the downbid training costs. These cycles only last a year and a half to two years, and AC has lots of retirements and aircraft on order. As AC's 767 phase out, the new aircraft will arrive that have a much higher utilization and will fly much more block hours... yet another reason to say the world is not over yet.
Let AC sign off on their 2009 contracts and you'll see the hiring spool up there again. For now the music has only slowed down with one carrier not hiring, but people are still moving from WestJet, Canjet, Sunwing and I think Transat. I'm not sure what Skyservice is up to,.

i have been trying for a while and hope that this years is the year for me to get an interview .Or At least 2009 since i heard pretty much eveybody is interviewed for the 2008 classes . thanks for the response.

Hiring was complete, however we recently added a course. We still have about 8 positions to fill for 2008 and interviewing will begin again in the fall for 2009.

A pilot seniority list gets updated with every course added on the WJPA website.
