We surrender to China
Okay, folks;
I'm going to go ahead and call today The Point Of No Return. Global economic power will now firmly and permanently switch from the West to the East. Thank you, all you Walmart-shopping, lowest-possible-price-hunting, non-voting, fucking idiots. You will now see, from this point forward, the gradual collapse of everything we hold dear. A nation's true power is it's manufacturing, and we effectively no longer have any. Congratulations fuckheads! I hope the dollar you saved on your spatula was worth it.
Three words: TOO FAR GONE.
Remember this post. I'm not wrong...

Actually it was $1.50 I saved on the spatula, and that was before the coupon!

No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.
Re: We surrender to China
Would that be that bad? They seem better than the US, I think I even remember Chomsky saying something about China taking the lead in peacekeeping
Re: We surrender to China
China was the most powerful nation for the past 5000 years, except for a couple of centuries. What is wrong with them wanting to reclaim their title?

Re: We surrender to China
That's right. The rise of the western nations (France, the UK, Germany, Canada, the US, etc), will just be regarded as an abnormal little bump in the road by historians in the future.China was the most powerful nation for the past 5000 years, except for a couple of centuries. What is wrong with them wanting to reclaim their title?

Re: We surrender to China
Absolute nonsense. Look at immigration patterns. Count Hong Kong as part of China ( which it obviously is). Are Canadians emigrating to China? Or are Chinese immigrating into Canada. What's the net flow? China and India are both improving radically, and for that I say HURRAY!!! But it's not a zero sum game. We can all get along, we can all be rich. Just because the Chinese are finally getting their act together ( again) doesn't mean we in the west are in decline. Just because Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover doen't mean the USA is down the tubes. We can only hope that GM is. But autos are an old old technology anyway. China improves. India improves. I'm not moving anywhere, though Canada would be my second choice, after staying put that is.
Re: We surrender to China
People said exactly the same things about Japan in the 1980's.
Re: We surrender to China
Yeah, but Japan doesn't have the population base on China, nor was the west so badly in debt to Japan, nor did Japan have designs on becoming a military power. I said it before, and I'll say it again....we really need to get some Chinese newspaper to print a few pictures of Mohamed doing nasty things.

Holy crap! I didn't think going to Walmart was going to do something like that!I should probably avoid Walmart from now on and support GM by getting ann SUV, burn some more fuel and buy at higher prices! I guess buying at lower prices is against basic economic principles.Okay, folks;

By the way -- the US economy has tanked so much that China had to lend the US over 2 trillion dollars (that's Trillion with a T)! Go ahead and Google it!--Yeah, but Japan doesn't have the population base on China, nor was the west so badly in debt to Japan, nor did Japan have designs on becoming a military power. I think the payment is due this Friday.

Re: We surrender to China
Funny that with the interest it gets from the US, China buys new Sukhois!

Re: We surrender to China
We are benefiting right now from China's upswing by training their pilots. Plus I'd really like to make a low cost product that everyone in China would want and market it to them. I could buy a lot of Lakeport Pilsner with the proceeds!

Re: We surrender to China
China population is equal to Canada + US + ALL Europe + Russia + Australia NZ+ south america.
BUT
China economy is comparable to France or UK.
But China has 20 times more inhabitant than France or UK.
Sorry but I don' t see any problem. They still have a long way to do. It just mean that if they want to reach a western level of life, they would have to continue to grow at the same rate for many many many years, knowing that they are 20 times poorer than a western person.
Europe is the first economic and commercial power in the world (germany itself export as much as USA as an example). China is far far far behind.

Hmmm, maybe they would like some Lakeport too? You could be the Lakeport beer rep for Beijing. I bet you could then get some for yourself for free...Plus I'd really like to make a low cost product that everyone in China would want and market it to them. So who owns who? The US is in no state, at present, to repay said loan, but, by the same token, China can't really afford to call the loan, and have the US default. An interesting dance ensues...By the way -- the US economy has tanked so much that China had to lend the US over 2 trillion dollars (that's Trillion with a T)! Go ahead and Google it!--

You betcha North Shore. They send us color tv's. we send them little bits of green paper. Same with the Saudis....we get oil they get little bits of green paper. Though lately we have been introducing some designer colors!!!
Re: We surrender to China
Instead of visiting Walmart tonight -- I decided to go to the Calgary Stampede and invest in some homegrown economy. I ended up paying $9 for a cheese-burger and $8 per Budweiser, spent something like $55 on a cowboy hat (Made in Mexico) and bought a few shirts which inadvertently went to the Chinese economy! Now I'm broke and can’t fly
I'd start to get worried if I don't see many payments coming back to me. Maybe that's why China is so poor -- they lended away all their cash to a country where everyone is defaulting on their personal debts and mortgages
Two Trillion is a lot of money --- I think someone calculated that to be like $4000 per US citizen.
Best to not buy "Made In China" stuff so we can all save up money and repay that loan before China's Military war-machine decides it's payback time to collect/foreclose on a multi-Trillion dollar debt
Wait a minute -- aren't we all in Canada
I'm not sure how global economics works -- but I would NEVER lend (even my best buddy) any more than $100 millionSo who owns who? The US is in no state, at present, to repay said loan, but, by the same token, China can't really afford to call the loan, and have the US default. An interesting dance ensues...

Re: We surrender to China
It all depends on how you look at it.......is the glass half full or is it half empty? Is the west in debt to the East?........that could very well be and that list of people and countries that we owe doesn't stop in the Far East either. We can now look at it the other way concerning countries like China for example. Seventy per cent of what China produces is shipped to markets in the West. Should she loose those markets for the vast majority of her manufacuring base, what does she do then? There are amny countries around the world who manufacture much more than they need at home and sip to markets in the western world. Without those markets they can't trade for items that they need at home and which they are not able to make at home............and that's what trade is basically all about or else we are all in a lot of trouble. Eighty per cent of What Canada produces is aimed directly at the market south of the border and wiothout that market we're in grave financial trouble.
So don't lay awake at night and fret about the big Chinese take-over of all things western. They value and need western goods and technology as much as they ever did. The Chinese are also more than happy to have GM, Chrysler and Ford manufacturing plants on Chinese soil.........or so 1.6 million of their Chinese buyers though so last year.
