Expansion of the terminal!? How big is this thing going to be? Isn't there 3 or 4 hangars between the terminal and Peninsulair's hangar?

They say that 2004 plan is out of date and they have a new plan. They're not telling anyone what it is though...

DAMN! Another wasted 30 minutes on the internet
Re: HAZA, say it aint so?
I can't believe what's happening to the training industry??
I heard Harv's got closed (by TC) but then Pennisulair??
I understand economics and can afford the training...my theory is that a lot of the old timers (or at least people who run FTU's come from the Walmart school of thinking -- drop prices and keep business coming in, etc) are unfamiliar with the current situation...I consider it absolute sacriledge to close down then only school at an airport!
It's like FTU owners aren't willing to RAISE their prices to keep the FTU running! I think if you have to raise prices to do the job right --- then do it! Raise prices to keep instructors teaching instead of defecting to airlines.
I know a lot of students will be pissed off at this -- but you gotta do what it takes. There are students rich enough to afford it.
By the way -- Haz -- considering the number of students over there -- how much would each student would have had to pay for the FTU to keep it's spot over there??

The problem is that we have had to pass the costs on to our customers. We can only absorb so much before we bleed out and they know it.

Re: HAZA, say it aint so?
Hi Haz:
Where I'm at -- I paid like $200 per flight including 1/2 hr briefing and 1 hr flight.
I would've paid $300 if it were to be done right from instructors getting fair good wage and if that's what took to keep the AME's and aircraft running so I would feel safe renting from the place.
I'd say charge it to the student and see if they afford it -- I'd still do flight training fixed wing it if it were less expensive than a helicopter at $550/hr.
I'm not sure what the financial situation is like in Hamilton -- In Calgary -- I would've been willing to pay $350/hr for a PPL.
I think an average instructor should get paid at least $30/per hour since that's what I used to get teaching people how to use Windows XP.
Charge what-ever it takes to do the job right -- GIVE UP ONLY IF STUDENTS QUIT -- or get students that are willing to pay it. DO NOT JUST ASSUME they won't do it.
In the link -- they said you guys are now paying $4,400 per month. I checked into setting up a donut shop back in Edmonton Alberta in 1989 and the rent would've been $5,500 per month -- that's a lot of donuts I'd have to sell
Basically -- my point is that FTU's should charge a good fair price to keep running and to give the FTU a enough of clout over decision makers. Aviation shouldn't be "cheap".

I have been saying that for ever but the aviation industry mentality is cheaper is better.Basically -- my point is that FTU's should charge a good fair price to keep running and to give the FTU a enough of clout over decision makers. Aviation shouldn't be "cheap".

By the way $50.00 per hour should be the minimum for a flight instructor...and the quality of instruction may improve as it might attract more qualified teachers.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Corporate suits are a tough animal to fight...here is yet another example of this. Shitty deal.hazatude wrote:Thugs like Tradeport should be told and told hard.
The guys in these suits have the social skills of a wet dish rag. IMHO....they were NOT beat up enough in the play ground.
If society's rules and moral law fail to be upheld...then the rules and moral law of the jungle will eventually take over...
Sorry Haz about this shit...I'd love to help. However I'm only worth $1 out of $50.
Re: HAZA, say it aint so?
I fly there for the past 5 years. Sorry to see this happening, especially that it is my intention to further my training there and Penair was the school of my choice.
Rasing prices therefore raising tuition is a highly debated aspect. If you'd go to U of T and the tuition goes up 5% or 10% per year plus the cost of books ( aka avgas) goes higher and higher, wouldnt you call your MPP and give him crap?
YHM should run their business keeping a watchfull eye on the health of the business that support them. Unfortunately that is not the case. They keep chasing that terminal that won't happen anytime soon (show me one major airline coming there soon; none!).
My fear is that they want the spot for another company such as Jetport to build a new hangar. Watch for it in the future.... could it be Cargojet new offices? Did you see the 2004 diagram showing the land reserve? right into Cargojet former apron! And where are the Cargojet ac's parked now? In front of Peninsulair!
joco.

Haza, I'll send Tradeport a copy of this:

Let 'em run through a few "games" before they do anything else in "real-life". That airport is a hidden gold mine for the entire city but it seems no one can solve the puzzle.
