C 150 emergency landing CYOW

Today a C150 [JZP] from the OFC made an emergency landing on a field in the west end of Ottawa ,instructor and s.pilot OK

Emergency Landing

It was a real life lesson in how to perform an emergency landing for one student pilot in Ottawa on Wednesday. The student's plane lost power and he had to bring it down in a field in the south end.
He made the landing with his Cessna around noon on Wednesday, not far from Greenbank and Fallowfield Roads. There were no injuries and the plane was not damaged.

The flying club that owns the plane says the engine didn't shut down, but did lose enough power that the plane couldn't stay in the air. Officials with the Ottawa Flying Club say such emergency landings are rare. The last one with the club happened 15 years ago. They say the student did the right thing by finding an empty field to land in.

Realistically, in aviation a 35 year old plane is not old per se. Ab initio flying is ab initio flying so if it isn't broken don't fix it. Look at all the DC-3s still going strong...it's 73 year old design!

Narrative: The Ottawa Flying Club Cessna 150L aircraft was on a local VFR flight from Ottawa (M-CIA) (CYOW). The pilot advised of an engine failure when the aircraft was about four (4) miles from the airport. The airplane was successfully force-landed in a field. Narrative: UPDATE Follow-up information received from Maintenance & Manufacturing [2008/07/17]: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) spoke with the operator's Maintenance staff about this occurrence. The CASI was advised that following the return of the aircraft to Ottawa (M-CIA) via ground transportation, the AMO completed ground runs and the engine operated normally. The AMO will investigate further to determine if there was another potential cause other than carburetor icing for the reported RPM drop. Carburetor heat did not resolve the RPM drop prior to the forced landing. The aircraft will also be inspected for any associated damage resulting from the landing in the grain field.

Narrative: UPDATE Supplemental information received from J.R.C.C. Trenton [2008/07/17]: J.R.C.C. Trenton staff were advised by NAV CANADA staff at Montréal ACC of an aircraft declaring an emergency and attempting to land about five (5)NM west of Ottawa (M-CIA). A 424 Squadron Griffon helicopter (RESCUE419) and Hercules aircraft (RESCUE306) were both tasked. Ottawa Carleton Police were notified and requested to assist. Local authorities were on scene; no injuries; T.S.B. notified. SAR units were stood down. No further action required; case closed. Timings: RESCUE419 -- 0.2 hours; RESCUE 306 - 0.2 hours.

I've always wanted to fly her again, but I am too fat now for the dual check out with the OFC.

a C150. Not sure how they got the doors closed.
