Religious Intolerance of Atheism
I was messaged by someone I completely forgot.
Lets call him Q.
Q told me that he found my remark very offensive because Q is a Christian.
Oh, this gets better.
No, not really. I think I forgot the rest of the message. I was laughing too much.
Well, Q, since I can't remember your name.
Too bad.
No really.
You want to believe in a fairy tale, good for you.
I don't. I also don't care what you think about my beliefs.
I don't care if you get offended.
A LOT of people are going to offend you. What are you going to do?
No really? Its my opinion. You have NO right to tell me what I should or should NOT think.
Oh, your offended. So? So what?
If you got the balls, reply.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
I'm not "Q" and who ever "Q" is probably needs thicker skin, though on the other hand, maybe you just feel the need to be an ass
cause you got some problem relating to people.
No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.
Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
Religious people are often insecure about their faiths. Likely due to the amount of fairytale that has been ripped apart by modern science.Invertago wrote:I'm not "Q" and who ever "Q" is probably needs thicker skin, though on the other hand, maybe you just feel the need to be an asscause you got some problem relating to people.
Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
Everybody is obviously entitled to their own opinions.
I am not "Q".
You are not showing more tolerance towards other's beliefs by calling them fairy tales than "Q".
It may be your opinion, but it may also offend some.
Now my point-
Why go there?

Seemings how we are sharing opinions that may offend some. b1ngnx33, why do you post so much crap? Really, you should write for the National Inquirer. Now, please hope in your water powered rocket, head for planet Mongo, have Ming the Merciless impale you, and then apologize to our Lord Mighty God as he sits in judgement of your black soul. (You need not fear this last judgement because Jesus loves everyone, even a heathen like you, and he died on the cross for your sins so that thou might know the glory of our Heavenly Father's Kingdom).

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
Well.... in a way, I would like to bring some light to this conversation.
I am Christian Catholic... and quite a moderate one at that. I find what confuses people the most.... is that they feel they either have to believe in religion ALLL the way... like 100% no intolerances, word for word, every scripture, every sentance the whole 7 days, eating the Apple, burning of the tree, suffering in Hell bullshit.... OR.... they have to go completely against religion and be absoulte Athiests.
As a Catholic, (who does question things often), after much examination, I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle as to the whole (does God exist question). Athiests seem to have built up many scientific proofs as to why God can not exist. However... their is one surmountable piece of evidence that can be used to PROVE God's existance.
This piece of evidence is both tasteless, invisible, no odor and cannot be touched. However, I believe it is the key into proving The Lord. And no Athiest can ever prove where it came from. This piece of evidence that proves in God is....
LOVE.
This feeling is... of most defiante; a spiritual one. If an Alian were to ask you to prove in Love... you would not be able to.. Just like we cannot prove in God completely. Therefore... when I see two people in Love... or someone who is heart broke, in pain, or is happy or whatever other emotion you can think of... this in itself is a mirracle taking place.
As far as Religion.... they all pretty much have the same messages, that all filter down to the same thing... Their was a Creator. As far as this creator looking down on us at every possible second, every night and day, keeping tabs on our behaviour... and if we do bad, than we will suffer, die, be in pain, cry, live in anquish, be in pain and burn in hell for the rest of eternity untill the end of time.... this in my opinion is bullshit.
Therefore, Athiests are right in saying religion itself might be bullshit. It kind of is..... if you think about it... on the other hand... When I witness human emotions... there is no doubt in my mind that it is genuine evidence of Gods existance.
One last thing... when you examine all the complexities around us in this world.... (sperm making a baby, how men want to have sex all the time, women want to be in a secured relationship, how photosynthesis produces the plants, how the rain replenishes the earth, how our blood cells produce an organisme that fights off disease, how men and women are naturaly attracted toi each other, but not to their own siblings or parents... etc....) You MUST STAND IN AWE TO THINK THAT SOMEONE HAD TO HAVE PUT THIS ALL IN MOTION IN THE FIRST PLACE. Even if evolution is legitamite, the laws of Physics still had to be put in place to allow all of these miracles to happen.
My advise to any Athiest is to..... PLEASE WATCH STANLEY KUBRIK'S - SPACE ODYSSIE 2001. He hits it on the nail as far as their being a creator. Our minds are sooo sooo small.... it is equivalent to an aunt standing neer their little aunt hill... wondering what in the hell is this big foot standing next to them doing. Like comparing us to an aunt... is like comparing two completely different dimensions. This is what we are equivalent when comparing ourselves to the creaotr, and how truly little our minds know when trying to question Gods existance.
Therefore, God does EXIST.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
So your proof of God's existence is something that you can't prove exists? There's this thing, called a circular argument, to which this is very closely related.synthpro wrote:LOVE.

Religion is about faith, not evidence. People of faith shouldn't be concerned with having to prove the existance of their god, to do so misses the point.
And atheists should know better than to try to prove gods don't exist, it's virtually impossible to prove a negative.
As an atheist, the only times I'm concerned with religion are when stupid things are done in its name. Someone's personal faith is just that, personal, and none of my business.
no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.
Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
and don't forget to add that 'church' has nothing to do with 'faith'.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
If you "Christians" want to gather in "special" buildings on Sundays (I know, some of you..Saturdays) to "chant" incantations to your "imaginary" friend, while a bunch of robed figures stroll down a corridor leading to a "symbol" of an item used for executions, have at it. As some Cardinal of the Catholic Church once stated..."It has served us well, this myth of Christ...."
It ain't about the belief. It's all about the money!
What do you think, Harvey?

Biological imperative to mate, procreate and stay as one unit in order to raise the offspring to an age where it can survive on its own. This piece of evidence that proves in God is....

One small question for the intelligent design concept. Who created God?
Whether you believe or not, it is important to ask the tough questions of authority.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
Budists are pretty good about not killing things.
Synthpro, that was a pretty good post. That one can choose to believe in God while not buying into organized religion is an all around decent idea.

Im also an athiest. I respect others opinions, but only if they respect mines.
One time, I got into a dispute with a freind of mine who believes in god. He said the wind is the sign of god, rain is sign of god. People who get struck by lightning is a sign of god punishing them, becuase they might have done something bad. He was using these examples to prove to me that god exists. I felt like telling him to open up the air command weather manual and reading about how all the above weather develops.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
One small question for the intelligent design concept. Who created God?
Well this is where my Ant vs. Human analagy kicks in. Ants dont have the brain power to even acknowledge that us humans exist. We are like an aunt when being compared to the creator. Who created God?... good question. Who created Time?.. Does time really exist?... How far does the Universe stretch? Where do you go if you get sucked into a black hole?.. how about a white hole?. Now we are getting into quantum phyiscs and all of this other extremely crazy stuff that completely defy any conventional laws of Physics as we know, which we have no clue about.
We humans really know very little when you think about it... and asking a simple question like... who created the creator... could never be answered with our limited brain power. Just like an ant could never begin to ask questions like... what is this foot doiing here standing next to me?
Also, for all the pundits out their who says Religion is a money racket. I dont really know which organizations involving humans aren't. Humans are imperfect and always will be. Religion, just gives an oppurtunity for famillies to consolodate once a week and humble themselves. GREEN PEECE, UN, UNICEF, RED CROSS, GOVERNMENT, TERRY FOX FOUNDATION, WORLD WILDLIFE FOUNDATION and any other organization you can think of all more or less have corruption somewhere down the line. Hell... even marriages are composed of LIES AND DECIEPT. Human intervention is as you can see... less than perfect. Therefore, the coruption you find in religion... does not necesarily come from our Lord.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
I am told that if I spend a couple hours a week
(eg Sunday) in a church, that will make me a
good Christian.
So does that mean that if I spend a few hours
a week in a garage, that will make me a car?
Hold on a sec, after all the time I've spent in
hangars over the years, I must be an airplane
by now.
I'm not sure I've got the hang of this religion
thing yet, especially since I don't feel the urge
to run out and kill people who believe in a
different religion than mine. And I don't like
having sex with boys, so there's another
religious door closed to me.
Sigh.

The argument from the religious types about the "Big Bang Theory" will dispute it by asking, "What was there before the big bang?" Again something the human mind might not be able to fathom.
If the human mind cannot physically picture something it shouldn't preclude asking the questions. Many times mathematical equations can be used to prove things that you can't conjure up in your imagination.
If you look at the past, many many things that used to be explained by God are now explained by science. If you extrapolate that into the future, I can see most things if not all eventually get explained away. (If humans don't wipe themselves out by then).
Often times the argument then becomes well science solves one question by discovering something else, that new questions have to be asked about. However, those questions were always there we just didn't know enough to ask them.

Re: Religious Intolerance of Atheism
767 has a pretty good point. Believe what you want, but respect other's beliefs. (Unless of course someone else's beliefs involve them harming you. In that case take them out at the knees; thus going after CHICOMs and Islamic militants doesn't make you a bad person). As for proving God exists, you can't. You can't prove that he doesn't. The point is that it is a choice.
