How do you register a Call Sign?

Post by Treetops »

Our company is looking at switching from registrations to call signs and not sure how to do this. Made a couple of calls but haven't got anywhere yet. Anyone know how? Thx for the help.

Cheers,

Here you can try this document. It has information at the begining of who to contact at NavCanada. It also list all the names being used today.

Thanks for the info. Great help just wish they would give you a phone number or e-mail address instead of using snail mail. Going to search the Nav Canada website but it seems to be down right now.

Try service@navcanada.ca

They should direct it to the appropriate department if you include that you want AIS (Aeronautical Information Services) to process your request.

SUBJECT: CRITERIA FOR THREE/TWO LETTER DESIGNATORS & TELEPHONY CALL SIGNS

NAV CANADA Aeronautical Information Services at Head Office (AIS) is responsible for approving the international and domestic designators from the requesting aircraft operating agencies and/or the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) clients.

The assignment of international three-letter and domestic two-letter designators are based on the NAV CANADA criteria. The ICAO ANNEX 10, Aeronautical telecommunications and the ICAO DOC 8585, Designators for Aircraft Operating Agencies, Aeronautical Authorities and Services, define the fundamental rules for the registration or change in the ICAO designators.

Following is the NAV CANADA criteria:

1. Assignment of telephony and three-letter designators:

a) The aircraft operating agency must provide a copy of their Canadian Air Operator Certificate.

b) The aircraft operating agency must provide a copy of their flight schedule which consists of 10 or more international air operations per week and generates the appropriate flight plans or other related flight operations over the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network (AFTN).

c) ICAO must approve the request.

d) Aeronautical Information Services at Head Office may grant an exception with regard to item b), subject to Air Traffic Services concurrence
(e.g., Agency operating an aircraft over 50,000 kg).

2. Assignment of telephony and two-letter designators:

a) The aircraft operating agency must provide a copy of their Canadian Air Operator Certificate.

b) The aircraft operating agency must provide a copy of their flight schedule which consists of 40 or more domestic air operations per week.

c) The assignment of two-letter and telephony designator is restricted for use within Canadian Domestic Airspace and by Canadian Air Traffic Services only (e.g., if any portion of the route and/or the alternate airport is outside of Canadian airspace the civil identification of the aircraft must be used).

- 2 -

d) The assigned two-letter and telephony designator can be rescinded by NAV CANADA at any time due to possible conflict with ICAO or any other operational reasons.

e) Aeronautical Information Services at Head Office may grant an exception with regard to item b), subject to Air Traffic Services concurrence (e.g., Medevac flight company).

f) An agreement between NAV CANADA and the aircraft operating agency must be signed for the assignment to be official.

Note: Aircraft operating agencies using the two-letter designator will not be able to use the ATS data-link system for pre-flight clearances.

If more detailed information is required, please contact AIS Head Office (airac@navcanada.ca).

Thank you,

At one time the persons name was Mr. Dave Mohan @ NAV CANADA I am not sure if it is still him for Company Flt. Designators. His e-mail address is airac@navcanada.ca. The telephone number 1-613-563-4269 should put you in touch with someone.

That document is out of date. I'm pretty sure all of AIS is out at the tower now.
