Latest from Jazz
Hi Guys:
Just wondering what is the latest from the ALPA MEC/FLT OPS regarding any surplus at Jazz??
Hopefully there is enough people taking leaves to prevent anyone from going to the street.

Re: Latest from Jazz
Leaves and reduced blocks have been offered, not sure how many people applied though or when they will be issued.
The exact number of reductions will be hard to predict as it will depend on how many people take the LOA and reduced blocks. I believe the total reductions was around 80, I dont remember exactly. The good news is that WJ is starting up hiring again, so hopefully they will take a lot from us. Several guys are leaving for Emirates, sunwing, CX, etc over the next few months as well.
I didnt read too much into the bid as I know that anything can happen over the next few months. And as a junior guy, I dont want to stress myself out over this anymore than I need too.

Re: Latest from Jazz
To elaborate a little further: The latest bid shows a reduction of 85 pilots of which 53 are captain positions and 30 are f/o. Hardest hit is the YYZ base followed by YUL, and this on the RJ. The only base to "grow" is YYC. Reductions are to start in January of 2009. Time will tell exactly how many if any will end up getting laid off. As far as cost savings go... that would seem like a bit of a stretch given that there could be quite a bit of training going on if people are switching equipment. This is more to do with "optics" than anything else.
Re: Latest from Jazz
I really wouldn't stress too much. Jazz MAY lay off (that remains to be seen) but with leaves and guys leaving in solid numbers to other companies, I think even the most junior FO will be ok.

Hopefully no one does see the street.
So much for managements previous rant "Guys we have a CPA agreement with AC that guarantees x-amount of aircraft. It is job security".
Ya right, job security when dealing with the Air Canada/ACE corp. is an oxy-moron.

Re: Latest from Jazz
The announced layoffs have more to do with optics of showing the investment community at large that they are doing something to control costs... fact is, that if enough people have to shuffle their positions as a result of displacements, the company will be spending more on training, in addition there could be associated moving costs as well. The current executive management at Jazz needs to go before anything gets better. They have no desire to actively pursue new business opportunities outside of the current CPA arangement with AC.
Re: Latest from Jazz
There may not be any lay-offs if a bunch of guys bail but depending on their seniority, there will most definately be downgrades.

This management script is getting old. The same one is acted out every time contract negotiations come up. Just insert new crisis each time. ie Oil prices, CCAA, terrorists & SAR's, tech bubble burst, polio outbreak, scurvy, the plague,....you get the picture
Re: Latest from Jazz
Well it would appear the last equipment bid is off the table given the number of people interested in the LOA's and block sharing. So the game continues.
