I'm going to Hawaii in two weeks and was wondering if I can do some flying there. Only have a Canadian Commercial and no US license. Will I have to rent a plane with an instructor??? Any info will work

Well according to the missions in Microsoft Flight SImulator X you just need a 45 minute checkout in a Baron, i've done that a couple times.

Re: Flying in Hawaii
I own a book called "Flying Hawaii". I was going to fly there just after getting my private, but couldn't due to my private training being extended past my vacation.
Look for it online. The author is Peter N. Forman. It's a great book.
You can definitely fly in Hawaii. Contact an FBO over there for details.
Have fun! I plan to join you one day.

You may need to get your FAA Certificate if you want to fly there as PIC. But you can go up with an instructor forsure. The FAA website has all the info you would need.
Re: Flying in Hawaii
I lived and worked on the Big Island in 2000. Even if you have your FAA ticket the tour company/flight school I worked for gave the option of training for 5 hours with one of their instructors before being cut loose or have the instructor tag along for the rental flight they wanted. A Northwest DC-9 driver got all pissy that he had to pay for an instructor to come along. Expect to have someone tag along to babysit you.

If you are going to be in Honolulu, go by and see Pat Magie. He is a qualified instructor with a 206 and Beaver on straight floats. You won't find a more experienced pilot to show you around.

I rented back in 2000 from Maui Aviators. Their check-out requirements were reasonable, however, you definately require a US Certificate or Validation if you want to fly without an instructor.

When I ws in Maui in spring 2001, 02, 03, 04, 05 yadda yadda, I went to mauiaviators as well. A simple checkout was all that was required, but I didn't feel like burning cash on a checkout AND then renting again for solo. (Do I golf at Kapalua Plantation Course, or rent a plane.... Kapalua won hands down
)
Anyways, Maui has nasty crosswinds, airport is in a large valley, 5000 foot mountains to the west, a 10000 foot high dormant volcano to the east (which also makes for some nice cycling training grounds if I do say so myself)
From what I recall they have weird VFR altitudes they want traffic in and out of Maui at since there is a *PILE* of helicopter traffic... I didn't feel overly comfortable being 700 feet above the Pacific in a single engine Cessna knowing there are hungry Tiger Sharks underneath me... If you do go on a rental go and fly past the North Shore of Molokai' and see the cliffs and waterfalls.. totally amazing! I felt it was almost better to have an instructor with me because it turned into my own personalized sightseeing tour.
