Re: You Lucky Bastards.....
Been to a lot of the places mentioned,(Kluane / Moose Ponds / Virginia Falls / Glacier Lake / Bunny Bar / McKinnley or denali ?? / Wrangells - St. Elias / Alluetians in the west and a few others in between as far as the Torngats to the East and a lot more I need to get to) but just came down from N. Quebec on Sunday and for the last hour from the Ottawa River / Kipawa area down to just North of Huntsville (home) and along the NW corner of the park had spectacular fall colours, second to none which some of these mountainous areas just don't have. Also was a little funny after 8hrs.:13 min. to hear requests for weather on 26.7 after a season of basically no communications. An aircraft was trying to get from Parry Sound to Oshawa and all the while I thought it all looked good. Niss, give me a shout when you're up this way. The plane will be in the water as long as I can keep it there. For 9 or 10 months of the year this is a pretty cool place to live / drink and raise a family and you don't need a parka. But when those tourists start their seasonal migration... it's time to get out of here. Have fun where ever you are and remember if you don't like it, you can always move on.... No excuses, lifes too short.

. where is that southeast of Nahanni? I click and get a picture of what appears to be a city on an ocean coast...gotta go pretty damn far southeast of Nahanni to hit an ocean.. . wrote:No that picture was taken south east of Nahanni.Hey ., that photo looks familiar, was it taken just West of the falls in Nahanni?
Can someone tell me what is so difficult about flying in the Nahanni area?
I didn't read where anyone said the Nahanni area is difficult flying, rather, it is an area of beautiful scenery and can be very tough to get to for your average outdoors person who might like to enjoy that beauty.
That being said, having flown in the area for a couple years, it definitely presents challenges that other types of geographic areas do not. Ever been to Haywire Lake when it's glassy, .? I doubt it was named for any connection to baling twine.

Slats, that airport is Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro and it is my favorite airport in the world. Kai-Tac was also an interesting airport but sadly it is no more.
Last time I flew the Nahanni was in 1970 in Mobil oils DC3 and I flew up the river and pulled up over the falls just for fun.

Nope, conversely you ever been flying over the Red Sea when it is glassy and lose an engine in haze so bad you can't tell up from down?

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

I bet that day you didn't even think of swapping jobs with that guy!

Flying an aircraft and building a guitar are two things that are easy to do bad and difficult to do right

Yeh, Xsbank when it comes to flying you can't win.
When you have little or no experience you are looked upon as some how inferior in this game by some of the pilots out there.
When you have lots of time and experience you then become a target of the same mentality because you actually have done it.
So I guess I'll just have to live with it.
