It appears I cannot remove/delete a post after it has been responded to.
The photograph below, the credit due, is to Click Here wee_in_yyc's photostream.

Excellent photograph of not only a new aircraft, but as far as I am aware, only the second VIP ERJ-170. As a biz jet fan, I was unaware this aircraft was even on order? I worked at Innotech in Toronto, when we had Shell based in Toronto with C-FSCL Hawker 1A, and C-GSCL Hawker 700, and their hot little Cessna 310.

If you do a google historic check, you'll see Shell's old C310 C-FSAS which I used to fly on a regular basis with Ken O'brien. That aircraft ended up being donated to Canador College. (After it first hit a telephone pole while being airlifted by helicopter, and then released early when the helicopter had a low fuel warning!!!).

Since moving to Calgary, taken the 700A with them!, they've updated several times, with an 800A, a Falcon 200, Falcon 50, and Falcon 2000.

Again apologies to wee_in_yyc's photostream.

Rob.

Info I've heard is that it is a crew mover, much like the CRJ's that Suncor has are for them. It is officially registered as an EMB170-200LR, not their Lineage Corporate model.

Crew mover or VIP???

Shell already operate a Dornier 328-100 C-FSCO as a crew mover,
and they recently sold their corporate jet, Falcon 2000 C-GSCL.

Shell Canada has had a Corporate Jet since the arrival of their first
Hawker a 3A, CF-SDH delivered in 1969!! The new ERJ is the only
other aircraft currently owned by Shell Canada.

I can confirm that the Embraer is a crew mover, much like the Dornier is. Since Shell Canada was bought out by Royal Dutch Shell their was a move to no longer operate any executive aircraft. That is the reason that the brand new Falcon 2000 was sold.

I believe there are 170's/190's and 195's used for VIP transport in the Mid-East. Curious as to how you make a 170/175 a Long Range... lucky to get 2000 nm out of it and much less if you are operating in the North and the nearest alternate is 300nm away!

Regarding range, I don't know about Shell's ERJ-170, but according to an article in the September/October 2008 WINGS magazine, the Embraer Lineage 1000 big biz jet, (BBJ), which is based on the E190, has a range of over 4,000 nautical miles. Mach 0.82 and is capable of operating at 41,000 feet. Price: $65-70 million.

Pretty big difference in the engines between the 170/175 (CFM34-8)and the 190/195(CFM34-10) family as well as fuel capacity... when Embraer posts their range numbers they are trying to sell airplanes so I doubt it represents range with legal reserves.

It is an interesting choice for this kind of work. Anyone have any idea what the Dornier pax config and fuel consumption is?

I guess Shell will have to charter VIP aircraft?

I thought Royal Dutch Shell always controlled Shell Canada.

I was indirectly working for Shell Canada back in the early 80's, just after Shell Canada sold their Hawker 3A C-FSDH, and purchased Hawker 700A C-GSCL. The Royal Dutch Shell Gulfstream II G-BSAL was at YYZ for all the important meeting.

As for buying the outstanding 22 percent of Shell Canada listed on the TSX, I thought Royal Dutch Shell purchased them in 2006?

Mr. Mathers the Shell Canada CEO that recently retired, was appointed by Royal Dutch Shell in 2006 to head Shell Canada.

Hopefully when the dust settles from this economic storm, Shell Canada will again purchase a corporate jet. We could use some Falcon 7X's on the register!!! Shell colours would be hot.

As far as I know, Magna has the only 7X on order???

PS; thanks for the update on the ERJ.

As strange as it may sound while Transport Canada Lists it as a 170-200 LR it's actually a 175.
Shell ordered 2 175s and is considering the possibility of a third.
The lettering beneath the cockpit window and all the paperwork that came with her swear that she's a 175. LOL

This must be a TC thing. Air Canada has 15 Embraer 175's and TC lists them as Embraer 170's as well.
