Re: CBC
Sure if you call it a Canadian cultural event.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: CBC
CBC's Melissa Fung has just been released after 28 days captivity held in a cave with only juice and crackers. Thankfully she wasn't hurt. It was kept secret until her release in order to not jeopardize her safety further. The Taliban is saying it wasn't them, and it does appear to be just your run of the mill criminal warlord. She was released after negotiations, but they are saying there was no ransom paid.
She sounds a little embarrassed by the attention and for smelling so bad, and she doesn't want anyone to make a fuss.
It could have been very very much worse.

If you will excuse me, I have to go wash my

Re: CBC
There are various reports that pakistani insurgents were released in exchange. Who knows the credibility of that.
What the hell was a reporter doing unescorted in a war zone? I know government employees have to have an IQ lower than 40 to get hired but jesus...

Was referring to military escort. Best description of the story I can find is, "She and her cameraman were abducted.." We would likely have seen casualty reports if there was any sort of firefight that you would expect from a military escort.altiplano wrote:It sounds like she was escorted. Those nicknames the Taliban give their hostage guards always crack me up....Rockie wrote:CBC's Melissa Fung has just been released after 28 days captivity held in a cave with only juice and crackers.
Pretty harsh on the Afghanis-can't do it-Canada signed the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment/Punishment in 1984........Hedley wrote:Would be possible to send the entire staff of the CBC to Afganistan?

All these cracks about low IQ's, CBC and government employees, and walking around unescorted are very amusing. But the thing is Ms. Fung (who works for the CBC, not the government) did go there. She was kidnapped, held in a cave with only juice and crackers to sustain her and had no reason to believe she would live through the ordeal. She emerged from that experience showing grace and class that some clowns on here just are not capable of.

Dammit! Curse you English semantics, your clever grammar rules have foiled me again!Rockie wrote:If that was what I meant Biblemonkey, I would have said she was held by juice and crackers, not with.
You have won this round, but I will be back. Oh, yes, I will be back. I will be bringing some back up next time, though. No one can withstand my sock-puppet tag-team of hilarious death. no one.

A little more seriously, of course you are right-this individual is obviously pretty strong.Rockie wrote:All these cracks about low IQ's, CBC and government employees, and walking around unescorted are very amusing. I do , however, object to your use of the term "clowns"-we prefer to be referred to with the more politically correct term " weasel-buffoons"

Re: CBC
I find it interesting that the government's request for media silence on the issue was complied with, dead quiet on the story for 28 days.
If it was anyone other than one of their own, would the media have complied with the request?
I'm thinking the lack of media spotlight was probably the only thing that allowed any type of negotiations to work.
The goal of deterrence through non-negotiating is kind of out the window now....unless of course our friends Juice & Crackers get paid a timely and well-publicized social visit by some JTF-2 guys...
Alls well that ends well I guess.
